“Must see if you are in to archeological sites”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

It's not far fom the city and there are buses that will take you there (or look for a place that will give a tour -transport and gide). I recomend going when its the rainy season, just because everything will be green and beautiful. It's not a huge site, but it is well taken care of. You can just walk around by yourself and wonder at the place. There are pretty nice views from the top of the temples or just about everywhere. You can also look around the museum, but it's not that big and as I remmember they dont have much inside it, but still nice if you are not very knowledgable on the place. And you really can't visit Oaxaca and say you didn't went there.

A very well cared for archeological site. As good as Chichin-itza in Yucatan Peninsula. Don't miss it.

“Definitely worth the visit”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

We've visited many sites of this sort. The proximity to Oaxaca and its do-able scope make Monte Alban a very worthwhile trip. Suggest using your own guide, however, to avoid the outside-the-park potential for chaos.

“Ruins with a difference”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

We have seen many ruins and this was one of our favourites. It is not a huge complex but there is a spiritual air to it that defies explanation. The Zapotecs were brilliant people. Was amazed at the size of the steps for such short people.

“A must to see when you are near”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

Very important historical site. Take a guide and you learn more than when you just stroll around. Try to spot it too from your airplane window ...
