As a daughter of Mexican immigrants the concept of "home" can be elusive. To walk on the sacred and ancient ground of Monte Alban, I felt both my heart stir and my soul sense peace as my tour guide shared with me a deep knowing of my ancestors and their brilliant contributions.
Monte Alban is very close to central Oaxaca. There are various tour companies that go. I opted for a private all day tour that included Monte Alban, Arbol de Tule, Valle de Teotitlan to visit Zapotec weaving cooperatives, and a stop for lunch. This option runs between 200-300 pesos/hour in a very nice a/c van with a very lovely and knowledgeable young man who is also a chef and teaches cooking classes http://oaxacancuisine.com/.
