A beautiful hotel with great service. We enjoyed the very quiet room (108), the big terrace on the roof and the the very helpful and friendly service of the employees. Really good breakfast and foods and drinks during day and night for a low price..

3 guests. Booked via Expedia and we had a fair enough size of a room with 3 single beds and we only paid $111 each for 6 days/5nights. My mattress was a little hard and my pillow was almost flat. Bathroom was big, though. However, you really need to adjust the water because the cold water was just a trickle and you could seriously burn your bums off as the hot H20 was really hot! (Room #103)
The staff were great. Mario, the day manager was very helpful with directions, suggestions, etc. Jasmine, one of the wait staffs was solicitous and was always willing to help. The hotel can also arrange for your tours.
There were 2 computer terminals that the guests could use, free of charge.
Breakfast was adequate with different kinds of bread, mexican dishes (eggs, etc.), cereals, pancakes, etc. During the week-end we had a buffet spread. Coffee was pathetically weak, though. It tasted just like colored water.
The hotel is also centrally located. About 10 minutes walk to the zocalo (town plaza) and equally the same distance to the museum, and other town attractions.

After spending a week at the Hotel Aitana I can say without reservation that it is a hidden jewel in Oaxaca and that I will stay there again. The hotel feels like it is off the beaten path, but it is only about a 10 minute walk from the hotel to Oaxaca City’s Zocalo and to the various attractions and restaurants in the old city center. The hotel is safe and clean and has an extremely helpful staff. Mario, the hotel manager who is there during the day was especially helpful. He helped us with everything from changing money to hiring a car and driver. Everyone on the staff was friendly, reliable, and did a great job.

The hotel has about 20 rooms and is in an old colonial mansion that has been nicely restored. The building was constructed around an open air central courtyard and the rooms have windows that open onto that courtyard to allow in the evening air. The rooms also have ceiling fans which in combination with the windows make them quite comfortable even without air conditioning. The rooms are surprisingly well lit with bedside lamps, a desk lamp, and a bright light mounted in each corner that reflects off the white ceiling. The good lighting in the rooms was a feature that was especially important to my visually impaired wife. The beds have firm mattresses that, while not plush, are quite comfortable.

The atmosphere at the hotel is relaxed and informal. There is a restaurant in the central courtyard that serves a great free breakfast and also has a menu of meals you can purchase. Even though you will want to sample the offerings of the many good restaurants in Oaxaca City, it is a great place to stop and relax with a beer or a soda at the end of the day. You can also check your email on one of the computers provided by the hotel for guests to use. If you bring your own computer, as I did, the hotel provides free WiFi.

I recently stayed in this wonderful hotel and i had 6 wonderful days. the place is very clean and the staff is very very friendly. I asked the manager (Mario) about a local place to have a massage and he found this really cool guy in the the nearby city of Etla. He also loaned my the hotel's digital camera after mine malfunctioned and this allowed me to capture pictures of my various tours.

once again thank you guys!!!

Muchas muchas gracias!!

I will be back and stay there AGAIN!

Hotel Aitana's upward movement in Tripadvisor ranking of hotels in Oaxaca is deserved. The hotel and service provided by Mario and his colleagues was experienced by ourselves. they also honored the Honeymooners package price before its increase.

The increase in its price to MXN 900 in low season (including American breakfast) makes it slightly more expensive than some other equivalent hotels which are room only. Nevertheless, we think that the attention to detail is well worth the extra MXN 150.

Go to Los Danzantes retaurant in Oaxaca on Wed or Fri at this time of writing for their comida corrida. Opens at 1.30 and you will have a treat for MXN85. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

My husband and myself spent two weeks at this hotel and we were very pleased with our choice. Mario, the hotel manager, was very helpful with his suggestions on which tours to take (they were so inexpensive we took them all). He then arranged everything so we just had to show up. Everyone that worked at the hotel was very nice and that set the attitude for many of the guests - we met many nice people. The breakfasts were very tasty and varied (I loved the French Toast) and they made several different fresh juices everyday. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Mario, Elena and the staff took excellent care of us for our entire 10 day visit.

I booked Hotel Aitana based on reviews on sites like Trip Advisor. Once in Oaxaca, we toured the grounds and rooms at pricier properties like Casa Oaxaca and Camino Real. Even after seeing those upscale hotels, and securing discount room offers (we were there during the post Semana Santa lull), we stuck with the Aitana for all 10 nights. Why? We simply could not beat the service. Plus, we enjoyed being able to spend what we saved on accommodations on dining and shopping excursions.

Our only complaint came towards the end when a large group of college students arrived. Our room was located next to the roof deck, where the group naturally decided to party. After some unpleasant exchanges, they finally agreed to retire to their rooms before sunrise. I cannot blame anyone for wanting to enjoy themselves while on vacation, but they were not being considerate of other guests. To their credit, the hotel staff backed us up and resolved the issue the next morning.

Overall, our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. I looked fwd to returning to our room every night. We felt pampered as we lounged over leisurely breakfasts in the charming courtyard.

We highly recommend a visit to Oaxaca and strongly encourage you to look into The Aitiana. We felt well looked after during our extended visit to one of the world's foremost cultural centers.
