not too close to the Zocolo. I stayed here for 3 days while looking for a B&B / Posasa to stay while taking Spanish lessons. i wanted to book something safe (big US chain) and that is what i got. it was near the school I was attending and it allowed me to look around for a more "Spaniish" place. Rooms were fine, spacious and clean. Staff very helpful with directions and suggestions. I would stay there again.

We had a nice time, 6 days, at this hotel. Our kid loved the heated outdoor pool and jacuzzi. The rooms are very comfortable and nice decorated. We loved to stay there. But: The hotel has no restaurant ( the stuff told us, that all "Express" hotels from Holiday Inn have no restaurant), you need to walk about 4 to 5 blocks to find some nice restaurants. A little bit to much when you just like to have a snack between. And: The breakfast buffet is ok, but there is not to much to choosefrom and when you stay for several days at this hotel and you know the next morning exact what is waiting for you at the buffet: it is not very pleasant.

This hotel got consistently good reviews, and it has a pool, so I went for it. The location is decent, about a 15 minute walk to the zocalo. But it is on the NORTH side, which has quieter and safer streets, as opposed to the busy south side. The rooms, breakfast, service, and general ambience cannot be faulted. I would stay here again.

Stayed here because I met friends. I generally prefer atmospheric places over chains, especailly in a city as magical as Oaxaca. But I have to say, it was clean, great lighting, safe, great water pressure and a real value.
I didn't mind the flat, but fairly sizable hike to zocalo.
This is a safe choice for those who worry about safety and comfort and need familiarity to have fun.
It is not for those who wouldn't be reading this right now because they wouldn't stay in a HI in Oaxaca anyway, so I'm not going to trash the place.

This stay was a real surprise, and I cannot think of one negative thing to say. The hotel was gorgeous and clean. Rooms are large, especially for a hotel outside of the US. Nice features include a large window with a sliding door, picturesque pool/courtyard, fresh and diverse breakfast, helpful staff, location, and price. At the $60 I paid through the Holiday Inn website, this room seemed a little pricey for Oaxaca, a city with many rooms under $40. The upgrade was worth every penny. IF you plan on coming to the city with several people, one suite could accommodate your group very nicely. For only a few bucks more, there are two very large rooms with a kitchen, and two televisions (the reception let me view a suite just because I was curious). Don't let reviews from pre-2007 scare you! The hotel was immaculate and was a gem.

First of all, you MUST see Oaxaca.
There were many small Mexican hotels in town. I would have preferred one of them for ambiance but this hotel was pretty charming for a Holiday Inn. I am not a fan of this hotel company. The rooms are very large, bed is comfortable, service is good, price is cheap, there is free breakfast if that appeals to you, ditto for the pool. Location is easily walking distance to Zocalo but relatively on the outskirts of Centro Historico. Hotel has no restaurant but who wants to eat at the hotel anyway. The rooms are a bit soulless but no more so than most american hotels. Overall pretty good.
