Here you can find, international food, and Oaxaca´s famous Mole.
Lots of informal places where you can buy crafts.

I have been living in Oaxaca for 2 1/2 years. I go to the Zócalo often and regularly, to see people, merchants, musicians, the Band of the State of Oaxaca, to have coffee or an ice cream. I have seen several Zócalos in Mexico and so far it is the one I like the most.

We lived in Oaxaca for the decade of the 90s, and the Zocalo was always a favorite place to meet friends, hang out, attend festivals, and eat. While living elsewhere, we heard that, during the uprisings of 2006, all of the giant trees that create so much of the Zocalo's atmosphere had been chopped down. How sad!

Imagine our relief and joy when we returned in Feb. 2013 to find that only one or two trees were gone! The Zocalo is as charming as ever; it is like a magnet in the center of downtown Oaxaca City, drawing one to it's cool shade, constant parade of people, live music, sidewalk vendors, and great variety of eateries.

We have traveled all over Mexico and for the past few years have spent several months in Oaxaca each winter. This is the prettiest zocalo we've found. Yes, it's busy and sometimes overcrowded, but it's lined with good open-air restaurants, filled with beautiful old trees and the several fountains lend a tranquil atmosphere. The Sunday afternoon free concerts by the Oaxaca state band are a delight. A great spot to enjoy a meal or just a coffee or adult beverage while watching the passing scene.

The center of Oaxacaqueno life. Large and throbbing all hours of the day and night. Surrounded by restaurants and cafes. Could be Italy or Spain by appearance. Go and sit and watch life on the move. Surrounded by commercial and market districts.
