I had seen this place many times while walking around the Parque Mexico in Condesa, but it wasn't until last month when a friend and I finally went. This is the restaurant of the culinary school and the students get to practice their skills there by taking turns cooking, baking, bartending, serving, etc.
The menu (lunch or dinner) consists of a prix fixe 5 course tasting menu. There were several choices for each course with vegetarian, fish/seafood and meat options. All the dishes we sampled were very nice and very well presented. Portions are small but it's a nice feature since you get pretty full by the end of the meal. Their freshly baked bread is a nice bonus. The menu includes four beverages, which can be anything from water to alcoholic drinks to nice coffee/tea. Their cocktail specials were very creative and nice. Their wine list included about 12 different wines (half white, half red). The menu is a steal at 250 pesos (about US$20).
Their term is 12 weeks at the end of which they have a special buffet menu before they change the menu for the next term. Last night my husband and I tried their buffet. It started with a cold dishes selection. I liked the mixed beans salad and peppers salad and their artichoke dressing was very original. Next we had a la carte soups, shrimp gumbo, spicy and light. Then came the ceviche bar (I had shrimp) and made-to-order pasta. I had a mixed veggies pesto and my husband shrimp and bacon in a poblano pepper sauce which was outstanding. The main dishes buffet was too much for my husband but I tried crab cakes (nice and spicy), a garlic fish fillet, and different veggies, all very nice. For dessert I had the corn cake and my husband the apple crisp, both decent. For drinks I tried a cocktail called bubble-gum with peach, banana, strawberries and raspberries, delicious!
The dining room has about 10 tables with a nice view of the park and is nice though nothing spectacular. The service is good since students are working for their class grade. Reservations are essential and they only open Monday-Thursday. They also offer breakfast, which I would love to try!
