“Great place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

Awesome area to relax, unwind and people watch! Best margaritas ive had in mexico! Staff was superb and friendly. In an upscale neighbourhood, but snobbish at all. Was only there for drinks and respite from the heat but would go back to eat and maybe even stay.

“There are more authentic Mexican places around....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

The place is really beautiful, but the food is not worth the price at all. They really don't know how to fry potatoes (basic cuisine)! My husband's Arrachera was ok, but my Milanesa with potatoes was terrible...worst Milanesa ever. It felt like industrial food for the price of fine dining.

“Now open for breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013 via mobile

In an area adjacent to the Hacienda serves breakfast in a family atmosphere, with seating in the outdoor patio. The dishes are nothing special. The service is slow because the restaurant is crowded. The prices are adequate.

“A Great Oasis in the Mexico City 'jungle'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

For the second time ever I had the oportunity to have lucnh at this great Restaurante in Mexico City. The place is a real Oasis in the middel of this amazing and crowded city. The place looks like an old monastery, maybe it was, with an well kept interior. The inside patio is a MUST and recomend to eat outside enjoying the weather and the parfums that come from the jacaranda flowers.
The food is great with a very mice choice of wines. Traditional Mexican but not as spicy as you could expect from the traditional Mexcian food. (not tacos or chilli con carne). The servers are efficient and very kind. If you are visiting Mexico City do not loose this great restaurante.

“Good food at a price, very interesting people-watching venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I've been three times to the San Angel Inn. The food is delicious - dessert in particular (Isla flottante = top 5 desserts of all time). The building and decor are beautiful. The service impectable. Cons: somewhat crowded, and you are going to leave with a *serious* dent in your wallet. Do ask the gentleman at the coat check for the little history 1-sheeter to learn about the history of the building as it is very interesting.
The real interest is the people-watching experience for me. I am a middle-class Canadian, and like most American & Canadians, we're used to everyone looking basically the same. For the most part, you cannot pick out the average person on the street and "see" their economic level. Now, at the San Angel Inn, you get to see upper class splendor in full display: grand dames surrounded by their meticuously over-groomed broods. Siblings in matching outfits - perfectly arranged - playing with their nurse-nannies in the garden, appearing to have decended from the 1950 by time machine. One table next to you might appear to have sprung from a telenovella, while another seems to have strolled in from a Great Gatsby remake. It's quite the sight for the likes of me, in my frumpy egalitarian northern wardrobe, to be sitting next to people who probably paid more for their outlandish shoes that I would for my entire 5-year footwear budget.
So, go for the food, and enjoy the side show as a benefit. And get that Isla flottante for dessert!
