Magnificent spanish food -first quality, I would say- and a place with great tradition: good service, good ambience.

We found all the foot to be totally fresh with a huge election of fish I have not seen in many restaurants in Mexico City. Although the receipts are not dazzling, portions are great, and the quality is supreme. We sat on the second floor were there were long tables catering to lots of people and business men conducting their thing. I was amazed how they synchronized a huge table of about thirty people serving them all at the same time without confusing orders and the constant flow of drinks.

Although our dinner at Danubio was satisfactory, be aware that none of the staff can speak a word of English. There is an English menu but it is different from the Spanish menu and doesn't show prices. We arrived for dinner about 7:45 and the restaurant, located in a marginal area of the Centro, was almost empty. While we struggled to select from the menu and ate, multiple staff hung around the area lookling impatient for our leaving. In particular the owner/manager kept looking over to our table and skowling because we were still in the restaurant at 8:45 (when it advertizes that it is open until 10:00). We also thought the place was not particularly attractive and was over priced for what we had. Maybe Danubio is better for lunch and for guests who speak Spanish, but not again for us.

Arrive around 2pm if you want to get a table without waiting. Mexicans tend to eat later than usual on weekends and between 3 and 4pm the restaurant gets very crowded and the waiting list to get seated is long.
Food quality is excellent. It is a traditional downtown restaurant,a classic where you get the feeling of Mexico city. It specializes on seafood buy you can also order some other options, as pasta.

Danubio its an ICON of spanish food in Mexico City. Try the "langostinos" (river prawns), and sopa verde. Be early because it gets very crowded or make a reservation.
