This place is terrible. Outside there is loads of guys who hassle you and coming from the Ireland I had to climb five flights of stairs just to get to my room which was always roasting. If you want to lose weight then great but I didn't- I just wanted to sleep but I was too hot. Carry a bottle of water or a tank cos when you wake up you are royally dehydrated. Internet use was free but the keys were too hard and the computers were archaic. The sheets they give you are not always clean so check for pubic hairs...no joke. The beds are comfy but pillows are not and the pillow cases are not cleaned. I stayed for 2 nights but seriously would never stay again.

Stayed here three nights with my husband at the start of a 5 month trip around Central and South America. Had booked a private room, which was massive, had 2 bunks in it aswell as our double bed. Lockers in bedroom. Shared bathrooms were good, pretty big with big, full length mirrors! Breakfast was toast and eggs, can't go wrong there.

Staff were friendly enough, the best things about this hostel were:
1) the location- extremely central and much cheaper than a lot of others in the area.
2) the building- beautiful, colonial
3) the tours they offer- we did the trip to the Teothicuan Pyramids and a second to see some Mexican wrestling- and both were brilliant with outstanding guides.

This hostel has really great location and this is it's biggest advantage.
I stayed in privet double. Room was clean, bed comfortable however there was hardly any place for our staff even on the floor.
The room walls were really papaer thin so we could hear anything from the bathroom as well as the kitchen- the kitchen was couple of floors down but there was nothing over the kitchen.
Breakfast very basic and the same everyday. For 2 nights it was fine.
staff friendly. Bathrooms clean and spacious.

as other reviews say, has great location at zocalo and excellent bathrooms. negatives are lame breakfast, smokers in foyer drift up to rooms via central void (its a non-smoking hostel), security doesn´t stop the loud talkers after midnight.
if they get these things together, would be much better.

It's located next to the Zocalo. You have different Metrostations near the hostel. The staff is very helpfull. We participated to the different tours offer by the hostel. The price is good. The rooms are clean. Great place for a good price

Because we wanted to reserve our first nights in Mexico City in advance, and this was the only hostal with email adress in our guide, we chose this one.
Not the greatest choice ever... It's a hostal, but we had a private room (the room was nearly great enough to fit the matrimonial bed in) with shared bathroom (which was ok, but nothing more than that). We didn't sleep much... the walls are so thin, and you can hear everything that is said or done in the whole building (fact that our room was near the shared bathroom didn't help). Let's say it was only quite between 2 and 4 at night...
Breakfast was ok, but not great (scrambled eggs, 'fresh' fruit, toast and coffee). If you came on a wrong moment, there weren't any cups or knives available, so you had to look for that yourself in the kitchen...
The building itself is nice, but the decoration was not nice, it felt cold and not cosy.
Only good thing about this hostal is the great location (oh yes, and free internet on two very old computers). I think we paid way too much for this room (350 pesos).

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in early April. We had booked a private double room, but were given a huge room with two double beds and a window facing out on to the street. If you want a private room I would recommend requesting a room with an exterior window, otherwise you're likely to get one of the interior rooms, which are basically boxes built within the building.Yes this hostel is quite noisy both inside and out, but it's a noisy city, so there isn't much getting away from it, but things always tended to quieten down by 11 or 12 at night
The breakfast was adequate - eggs, fresh fruit, toast, tea and coffee.I would agree that an extra toaster or two would go down well!! If you want to make your breakfast more substantial I would recommend popping down the road to La Vasconia on Calle Tacuba for some pastries or cakes. It's one of Mexico City's best bakery's and so cheap!
There's a lovely relaxing reception area where you can chill out with a beer and also a small TV area and kitchen.
The hostel is in a great location, with planty of good eating and drinking options near by, and we felt quite safe in and around the hostel.
If you're travelling alone and looking to meet other travellers, you might be better up the road in the HI Hostel Catedral, as this has every possible amenity and much more of a social scene, but if you want a cheap, laid back option, with no pressure, then this is the hostel for you.
