I was a walk in to Hotel Rioja on Avenida 5 de Mayo. I stayed here for about a week in October 2006 and it cost me MX$230 a night. I had a room on the top floor. It had a good sized clean & modern bathroom (great shower!) & the room was spacious enough with a double bed. I was travelling alone so the size of the room was perfect for me, but for couples it may seem too small. The hotel was very quiet, clean & comfortable and I will definitely stay here again when next I am in Mexico City. The owners were very friendly and helpful & as a sole-female traveller I felt very safe. The only drawback for me (as I travelled with a laptop) was there was no wireless internet connection, but there are a few internet cafes within walking distance. The other downside was that there were no laundry facilities, but after speaking with the concierge he put me in touch with a maid who washed my clothes for me for about MX$100.
The Hotel is in the Centro Histórico and a very short walk to the zócalo.
I highly recommend this Hotel.More
