“Air quality is terrible!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

This hotel seemed ok at first, the very basic hotel rooms were all you need to at least shower and sleep. Although we sooner or later found that opening the windows from the rooms doesn't ventilate any fresh air from outside, it only lead to a closed area in the very middle of the hotel where all of the other rooms face each other from all four floors. I have asthma and as a result, I became slightly wheezy during our stay of four days here. The service is decent with some suspicions from the person behind the hotel counter at night, only because of some things he had told us ended up not to be true. Although all of the staff were all kind.

My husband and I booked this hotel looking for a relatively cheap and central place to stay in Mexico City. For a start, the staff are very kind-hearted and lovely people and the rooms are decent for the price you pay. It is obvious that it is a very old hostel that has had some cheap construction to modify. There was construction right outside our window from midnight to 5am. I hoped it was an isolated incident but the staff member told me it had been going on for weeks. I was furious and wondered why they would sell a room when they knew construction was right outside. Did not sleep a wink. And staff could not move us to another room and did not offer any compensation for the terrible experience. On a side note - the shower pressure and water temperature was good.

The only major openings of the whole hotel to take in/out the air are entrance door and terrace door, both are usually closed. Room windows open only to internal, capped "courtyard." With no ventilation system, this makes a pretty bad air quality.
However, the zocalo location is great, it is inexpensive, and the front desk staff, who all speak good English, are helpful.

The hotel is located in the very centre, about 50 metres from the zocalo cathedral and the metro station. Its rooms are simple, decorated in a minimalistic style and very clean. The breakfast (buffet) is served on the terrace, but staff didnt really care to refill the food, so guests had to constantly ask about more bread or eggs...
The only real problem is the hotel's acoustics (better than a concert hall's!). You can hear everything going on on all of the floors, but the worst part are the banging doors. And prepare to be up really early in the morning from the noise. If it wasnt this, it would have been an excellent choice.
