“Atmospheric”

Visited the cathedral during a mass and although it was very busy this added to the impact on us. Able to see the artefacts and then wonder around the plaza outside afterwards and visit the other neighbouring structures - and see how they are sinking!

“It was nice!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

This site was included in part of the Wayak tour I took while in Mexico City. You can see the Virgin of Guadalupe from every entrance thanks to the way it was designed. The other sites around the main square where very nice as well.

“La virgen”

The basilica of the virgin is home to perhaps Mexico's most iconic image, the virgin of mary of Guadeloupe. While this painting is pretty, this site is nothing special. The new church is ugly. The old one is beautiful, one of the better colonial churches of Mexico. There are 5 or so more chapels in the area, not one of them worth visiting. This site is best seen as part of a day tour that also visits Teotihuacan. I have a driver Plutarco Cuadros (55.35.76.70 or 55.31.97.76.13) who for about US $100 will drive you anywhere all day. On this trip you will start at Tlatelolco, Tenochtitlans market city ruins, and visit the basilica on the way to Teotihuacan.

“Incredible”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2013

Totally in awe of experiencing the basilica. Seeing the procession of people making their way to visit the Virgin de Guadelupe some with mariachi bands was inspiring. The building itself is a work or art, and when viewed could be any type of meeting hall. It is architecturally beautiful.

And to understand the number of people per day who visit, it is definitely the heart of Mexico and its people and their beliefs.

A big new church where most visitors ;enter to see the drawings of the virgin.. The is an electric street not to stop in front.
a crowd in the church but it can take thousands of people. Outside, the old churches and house have difficulties To resist to the time and movement of the ground and earthquake.
