“Better try it for breakfast.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014

When visiting this restaurant you're choosing comfort, parking, amplitude, modern facilities/services and accessibility (highly appreciated features for locals) over colonial architecture, scenic view and outdoor seating (tourism stuff). This of course does not make this restaurant a bad option, service and food quality are way above average, specially for breakfast.
Give a try to the specials recommended by your waiter!!!!

“Food poisoning”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

This is not the first time I have been at this restaurant and thought it was o.k. Unfortunately our lunch this time became a nightmare. The waiter sent to our table a "molcajete" which is salsa, cheese and tortillas, even though we didn't ask for it -and of course it was not a courtesy-. As I live in Mexico I am familiar with this procedures, putting food on your table that you might think is free until you see your check. We ordered among other things some shrimp tostadas, which were kind of bland and ended causing us food poisoning. Be careful. No next time for El Cardenal...

“Perfect lunch, tasty Mexican cuisine ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014 via mobile

One of our favorite places to eat lunch Mexico City. Simply because the food is perfect:)
My husband grew up in Mexico and loves coming here to eat.

We stop here on the way from airport to the st. Regis.

We order tequila with sangrita :)

They bring to the table molcajete. Perfect. It has a green spicy cilantro sauce with farm cheese and fresh avocado
Fresh warm tortillas.

We then ordered beef tacos
arracherra,

Then chille relleno SO GOOD. The sauce was a red sweet adobo, to me it tastes like the best American BBQ you would ever eat

We love desert :) and ordered 2 deserts and combined them to make one fantastic dish. Normally we love sweet dishes (I love chocolate on everything)
1 the corn bread ( yummy)
2. Natilla ( not sure how to describe other than a butter
Cream sauce not too sweet)

Dump sauce on corn bread
Husband does not even like corn bread and loves this desert

Also the tres leches is great here:)

Eat here if you want perfect Mexican food with great service.

We enjoyed "people watching" here:) tables of nicely dressed older women having lunch and the other tables taken by business men.

“Good choice for lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2014

It is located inside the Hilton Hotel. It offers good mexican food with a more international taste. It is not spicy as locals like it, but it fits international taste.

“Best breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2014

From the hot chocolate, to the freshly baked goods and the bespoke yet discreet service, my experience at El Cardenal was one to remember. On a side note, I have also tried their escamoles (ants' eggs) omelett and that is another experience I cannot forget!
