Fluenz was fabulous at every turn. I never expected my immersion week to turn into one of my most favorite experiences.
The deets:
Fluenz will meet you at the airport and bring you directly to the charming Pug Seal Hotel in Polanco. Most of the classes were held in the hotel, a brightly decorated and charming restored mansion with a lovely garden.
The food:
Amazing! Fluenz brings in a chef who makes delicious and healthy meals. Food sensitivities were no issue.
The experiences:
Our class was during Día de Muertos and we were treated to an art historian’s explanation of the holiday, professional face painters who turned us in Katrinas or Katrines, and a field trip to a cemetery to truly experience the day. We also dined at the chef’s table at Pujol, had an after hours tour at the Anthropology Museum, had an energetic and entertaining explanation of Mexico’s history from the charming Adrian, and much more. Andrea was incredibly organized, helpful and patient (!) with recommendations for activities and reservations.
And finally: the classes! The excellent teachers for our private or semiprivate classes made the classes challenging and fun. Every teacher I encountered was enthusiastic and hardworking.
The week at the Fluenz experience in Mexico City was entirely memorable, for the right reasons. I write as someone with intermediate Spanish, somewhat stalled in execution, who has worked at it for most of a decade without achieving the fluency that I desire. At Fluenz they achieve a 'concierge-level' education experience by assessing your current level with a pre-arrival interview and writing test, and then tailor your sessions to your needs. My wife and I had private or semiprivate lessons twice a day which definitely stretched our abilities and gave us a lot of new confidence and skill with both our pre-existing language skills and a lot of new material. We both made new milestones and came away recharged! There was lots of other stuff, like the yoga sessions, the beautiful boutique hotel setting, the museum visits, and the amazing restaurant experience. Definitely worth the price in my book.
Loved the combination of one-on-one & small group (1 other learner in my case) learning. The folks at Fluenz really make an effort to assess your Spanish skills ahead of time in order to provide the most benefical lessons. They also worked hard to introduce us not only to the Spanish language, but also to Mexican culture (including visits to Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul & Museo Nacional de Antropologia as well as a presentation by a government advisor) & to haute cuisine (at Pujol). Sonia, Carlos, Marianne, & all of the Fluenz coaches & staff helped us feel at home while we broadened our knowledge. I am already planning on returning next year for more.
I really learned a lot this week. The instructors are all very knowledgeable and helpful. The patience they showed was a amazing. It really gave me the chance to stumble through building my sentences and grope for the right words, something I don't really get the chance to do when talking with random person.
The Fluenz Immersion program in Mexico City was pure delight. Learning a language is never easy, but 3 hour classes flew by. The teachers are all highly qualified, extremely patient and knowledgeable . I have attended a few immersion programs that are considered more traditional, in Oaxaca and Guatemala, nothing compares to Fluenz, not even Rosetta Stone. If you can't make it to Mexico, buy their online learning program. Sonia and Carlos run a highly caring, organized school and when you depart, you feel like you are leaving your family. I am sure I will go back again...and again...and again.
The Fluenz Spanish Immersion experience exceeded all expectations. Sonia has built a team of interesting and patient mentors who bring lots of life and language experiences with them. We laughed and learned together like we were old friends. I knew no Spanish when I went to Mexico City in June, and when I left I could understand conversations, speak in sentences, and was motivated to continue my journey of becoming more proficient with my Spanish.
The accommodations were beautiful and the perfect backdrop for our experience. The cultural events (poets, museums, restaurants) increased my desire to learn Spanish and made me more appreciative of Mexican history, art, and culture. The food was outstanding, fresh and representative of the local cuisine. If given the opportunity, I would love to do it all again.
Everyone on the team worked hard to make it a memorable experience. The Fluenz Spanish Immersion is one of my favorite things I've ever done for myself. I would most highly recommend it for anyone interested in improving their language skills, novices and experts.
