I have made the trek out to Coyocan every time I have visited Mexico City, and a highlight has always been a mid afternoon snack at Tostados Coyacan. Hidden away in the heart of the market, it is well worth seeking out. Fish and shrimp cebiche is always top of my list; the fresh juices are also good. Definitely recommended.

hey everyone if you are looking for a great local place to eat near Frida Kahlo museum, do find this place inside of the Mercado Coyoacan. The tostadas are 35 pesos each and they are incredibly fresh! Don't be scared to order, just point and ask them how many tostadas you want. The agua refresca is incredibly refreshing also( i asked them and they are made from bottle water and i had no stomach problems). I wish i can go back there again.

If you follow the rule that you should only eat where others are eating, you should have no problem eating here, because at lunchtime it is more crowded than the metro at rush hour. Tostadas are around 30 pesos each, substantial and delicious. The ceviches (octopus, shrimp) are superb. The 'special' shrimp tostada is spicy. Everything comes out at room temperature, so even the meat dishes will be cold, which tastes funny and violates one of the cardinal rules of safe eating, but is possibly necessary to keep the tostada crisp .I've never gotten sick from eating here, and I try to get here every time I'm in Mexico City. Neighboring stalls will try to lure you in, but don't do it; go for the original place.
