One of the best places to eat the real mexican food. Not inside the tourists circuits, but worth the trip to La Fonda 99. Just a few block from Metro Hospital 20 de Noviembre, in the middle of La del Valle Neighborhood, this restaurant offers the best Yucatan dishes outside Yucatan. Cochinita, lechón, papadzules, sopa de lima, this restaurant has affordable prices, and delicious taste. This is restaurant is always full with local people, since the quality is far superior from other restaurants in more trendier zones like La Condesa o San Angel. You can relax and enjoy a cold Montejo beer while waiting for your Sopa de Lima and Tacos de cochinita. One of the best places in Mexico city.

Considered one of the best Yucatecan restaurants in Mexico City I went with some workmates this past spring.

It did not disappoint ... all of the food was incredible ... great portions, flavors and fast/quick service.

Even more surprising even given its renown the place has kept the prices very reasonable.

I used to frequent Fonda 99.99 back in 2009 on assignment in Mexico City. But tonight I got to revisit since I now live in the City. The habanero salsa is Increíble! Just a scant spoon in the sopa Lima and you are ready to go!

We ended up eating at 99.99 because we were near it and craved for cochinita and queso relleno. The place reminded me of an American diner. The service was very fast but not quality. The food was very good, but the menu was just tacos. Prices are very accessible.

This is a "fonda" NOT a restaurant...and for those of you not familiar with the concept, it´s basically the same thing, only with a smaller menu and much cheaper prizes. It´s located in the "colonia del valle" in the south of Mexico City. It opens at 13:00 hrs and on the weekends either get there at 12:45 or at 14:00, between 13:00 and 14:00 you will have to wait for 15-20 min to get a table.
This is not a "fancy" place, but it´s very clean, very nice and a family oriented.
They don´t accept anything but cash....so don´t bother getting the credit card out.....the good thing is that is really very cheap: 3 adults (no alcohol) ate for 320 pesos (about 25 USD at current change rate).
Ask for the "panuchos de cochinita" to begin with and then the "lechón".....it´s really really good.
Another very good thing is that since the menu is so short.......they serve you really fast :-).
So......if you are looking for real good yucatecan food, this is the place you want to go.
Another good thing (I really like this when I travel abroad) is that there are no tourists here...this is out of the way, so strictly Mexicans and residents.......which guarantees that this is most definitively not a "tourist trap".
So......enjoy!
