First off go early in the morning. The lines to purchase tickets can be discouraging but once inside it flows. The castle is by itself a sight to behold. If you don’t have much time they will let you climb to the outside of the building, still worth it. The castle is divided in two sections, the first takes you through Mexico’s history, not in great depth but good enough to get a good grasp. The other section not to be missed is the wing where Emperor Maximiliano and many Presidents until 1935 resided. Much of the decor in the rooms are well kept. All in all, time well spent!

This is an amazing Castle full of history and culture. Gardens are beautiful and mosaic glass was my personal favorite. Walk up isn't a lot of fun, unless you're handicapped in a wheelchair you have to walk up. There appears to be a tunnel with an elevator if you are handicapped which is a great service.

There is about a half mile sloping walk to the castle from the ticket office. If you reserve in advance and have a medical reason, you can reach it by the elevator. However, even the castle requires extensive walking around and some stairs.
The views are spectacular because of the elevation. Also, you view the original rooms where Emperor Maximillian and his wife Carlotta stayed for 3 years prior to his assassination. There is also a museum displaying Mexican history from Benito Juarez’s time to the present. I found both of these interesting as well as the beautiful gardens on the top floor. However, the view trumps all. Great to visit on a pretty day.

Great piece of Mexican history. Some days entrance is free. Just check the website to know the dates the castle is open for public. Monday’s are close. Even if you don’t pay the entrance you might be slowed to get in the front garden to watch it from outside but I would recommend to get in since the building and view are amazing. Great place to take pintores overlooking Mexico City.
