So much to see in this historic cathedral! Also.. take a look at the unearthed ruins in the plaza just steps before the cathedral. Look down.. and you will see ancient sites beneath your feet, covered with a glass sidewalk.

“Business Trip”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

We went there on Sunday. The cathedral was packed with people. It is so big that they have masses at the same time and one does not interrupt the other.

Outside thousands of people enjoying the day.

Across the Cathedral there is a big plaza (El Zocalo).

That Sunday there was a marathon, a bike race, mini amusement park for kids, a book fair and musicians all over the place. Not to mention others selling all sorts of Mexican food.

Besides that a lot of people selling whatever you can think of.

Security by police very tight. On the other side of El Zocal is The President's Mansion.

“an imposing baroque masterpiece”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

the Cathedral, on the main square or Zócalo, is a sort of double-structure, with a side church where Mass is also celebrated. it is symbolically at the center of the city, and hence an easily recognized landmark.

“a short stop worth not more than 20min - interesting from archtiectural sense..”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Its a large and important church but I would not budget more than 20 min at best.
Its huge but lacks a bit specialty - for us, as we are not catholic.

“Beautiful Cathedral”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

This Cathedral was extremely beautiful. The Altar of Forgiveness as you enter, and the Altar of the Kings further back are absolutely magnificient. The Lord of the Poison is quite interesting as well.
