“Check its schedule before visiting”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

The site is not always open to public. Some website says it opens from 7am to 7pm, but it is not true.
We are in Mexico City during new year's time. The catedral opens at 8am, but inside opens to public after 10am. Sometimes, when there are services, the hall is closed to tourists too. We stayed in Mexico city for five days, lived next to the catedral, and we did not have luck to entre the main hall.

“Unfortunate time...”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

We visited the Cathedral at the wrong time. We went there on a Saturday morning and were told that there were so many first communions that most of the chappel were closed and inaccessible to the public for at least 4 to 6 hours??? The main entrance was open and there was a mass. Although it was unfortunate, I think this structure has lots of architectural significance and information you can discover within its chapels, the organs, the crypt, altars, etc.

“You might see Quazimodo”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

We took the 6pm bell tower tour (last of the day) and got to see the sun set over the plaza from the best view in town! The steps are perilous, but of course ladies made the climb in heels, even elderly ones. You can climb everywhere and pose on the very ledge. Curse litigious societies that have made this impossible elsewhere!

“METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL OF MEXICO CITY: Don't miss it!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

This is the most fabulous cathedral in Mexico, located smack-dab on the site of Moctezuma's Throne Room in ancient Tenochtitlan. The tons of gold and jewels bedecking the walls are just unforgettable. This place is so ANCIENT and SPECTACULAR. Don't miss it. Also, check out the old Mexican guys selling prints of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, the Beatles, Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata at the front gate to the cathedral. The photos are CLASSICS, and they are only 10 PESOS APIECE (about 80 cents). What a deal!

“Amazing building”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

This is a beautiful and interesting building. Wonder around and admire the devotion and commitment in Mexico. Wonder at how the building stays together as bits of it sink into the ground!
