Good for: Local cuisine, Romantic
Dining options: Lunch, Late Night, Breakfast, Reservations
Neighborhood: Centro Historico
Description: On the corner of “Republica de Argentina” and “Justo Sierra (Donceles)”, at the roof garden of the popular and traditional bookstore and publisher named “Libreria Porrúa” you can find a contemporary design Restaurant where elements such as vegetation (cacti originating in our Mexico), floors in granite and wood, modern furniture and glass make up its structure. Restaurant El Mayor is a proposal for high gastronomy in the heart of Mexico City Downtown. A multiproposal concept that includes terrace-deli, bar and restaurant with a view unique to the archaeological area of temple Mayor, the backs of the Metropolitan Cathedral, as well as majestic buildings of the Colonial and modern Mexico. The menu is based on classic Mexican food with a contemporary, where ingredients base of our Mexican gastronomic heritage are the main reason for the letter.

Following an enjoyable afternoon at Templo Mayor we enjoyed a late lunch with a view of the ruins. Top marks for the view, setting, service, food and price. First on our list of dining recommendation in centro d.f.

El Mayor has been there since 2008, yet for the great views, i was surprised it didn't have a waiting list. It gives you views of the zocalo, architecture of the last 5 centuries and to top it off Tenochtitlan pyramid ruins (try getting that in Rome). The food is moderately priced and certainly delivers, and the place accommodates families easily. Next to it is a more low key cafeteria, excellent to bring your laptop and contemplate the hustle and bustle of the streets below.

The perfect place to watch the day go by. This one really lives up to it's reputation. Excellent food and even better service at a very reasonable price!

I always like to eat here. Breakfast is great, if you don't mind sort of bad coffee. My favorite is bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, onions and tomatoes. Yum

Accidentally I found this great cafeteria on the top roof of a book store. Decided to go up there and have a snack since I was a bit tired for walking so much over the “Zocalo” wow this place has a great view from the Zocalo and the Templo Mayor the view is breathtaking and it really made my day. I had a Tequila sorbet and a cheese plate the prices were fantastic I did not spend more than 20 dollars total with my snacks and a few beers.

The place is worth a visit the only downer was the service it is extremely slow, but otherwise I would highly recommend this restaurant.
