Hotel Geneve Ciudad de Mexico
Ranked #33 of 312 Hotels in Mexico City
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 11, 2013

I have stayed at the Hotel Geneve in the Zona Rosa on two occasions and am going back in June. The service is impeccable and the staff very helpful and accommodating. The hotel itself is elegant, with a beautiful lobby and bar. The location can't be beat for easy access to the sights. The metro is just a few blocks away. I highly recommend the hotel in all respects..

Room Tip: Request a room in the old section, overlooking Calle Londres, if possible.

When looking for options to stay within the "cool" area of Mexico City, there are endless different hotels. But this one really stands out.

From the main entrance, going through the hallways, the two-stories library and restaurant/bar, until your room, all the decoration represents the concept of a "Museum Hotel" perfectly! It really takes you back in the days where Porfirio Díaz was a main character in the Mexican History.

The rooms, are comfortable and well equipped, mainly the bathroom! :) However, if you have really light sleep, you will wanna stay again from the rooms heading to main street.

In addition, all the staff is super nice, ready to answer all you questions and help you as far as possible.

Don't miss going for a drink in the phone bar, having breakfast in the restaurant and walking through all the corners of the hotel, you never know what is waiting for you just around the corner.

Finally the location, you will have on walking distance important boutiques, bars and restaurants for all kinds of crowd. And if you just want to take a nice cup of coffee, there is a "Cielito Querido Café" just a few steps away. Nevertheless, if you are looking for the trendy zone Condesa, it only takes a 80 pesos cab ride until there.

All the positive comments, of which there are many, written by fellow TripAdvisor members are true. The only negative is that it is in the middle of a thriving entertaininment area. So even though I requested a room in the "back", away from the street, I could still hear the partying. It didn't keep me awake for long though and unless you hole up in your room all day and don't go out and hit the town, you will be tired when you return and will easily get your zzzzzz's despite the noise of the people enjoying themselves in La Zona Rosa. If I ever return, which I hope to some day. The Hotel Geneve will be my base of operation.

This is my first time staying in the "zona rosa" I booked a flight and hotel package and thought that was a good Idea. Boy was I wrong.

The Hotel it self its beautiful, the service it's average nothing spectacular.

The one thing I disliked a lot was the area, It definitely did not feel as safe as polanco and if you like the alternative life styles this is the place to go. not so much for me.

If this hotel was in a different location I would have given it a higher rating.

When we walked through the front door we were in awe of the beauty and history in this property.
Unfortunately, the beauty was a bit overshadowed by just "so, so" service.
The restaurant is beautiful and we were looking forward to breakfast in such a beautiful setting, but the service was VERY disappointing.
It started with a dirty coffee cup, a dirty knife, 4 dirty plates at the buffet table (might have been more but those were the last 4) and then having to practically "beg" for a clean plate. (someone finally came out with a stack of plates and handed them to my wife to restock the buffet....didn't offer to put her on the payroll for working).
The food was not what I was hoping for and when the time came for breakfast to end, the food was immediately removed even though there were many people still eating. (a "last call" would have been nice).Overall, as a museum (which it is also billed as, it's a "do not miss" attraction...as a hotel or dining experience, skip it.

A Mexican Heritage building. Had considered an American hotel, but wanted an authentic experience. Hotel was perfect, beautiful decor. Concierge Jose was great, helped us with tours. All hotel staff very helpful and friendly, a lot spoke English. Perfect location in Zona Rosa, close to restaurants, transit. Highly recommend this hotel. Very loud on weekends with nearby bars, bought earplugs at store downstairs.

Room Tip: Ask for back if you are there on weekend.

I stayed here for 3 nights in a junior suite for a business trip. We chose this area because it is safer compared to many other parts of the city but still "in the heart" of things, and we all felt very safe. There are many restaurants, shops and money exchange places nearby. It is known as La Zona Rosa.

I had a very comfortable, nice and clean room on the first floor, my windows were part of their atrium or El Patio room (which is beautiful) so I had no view but had lovely, light-filtering stained glass instead. In the evening, I closed the heavy-curtains in preparation for when I eventually would go to bed. Since I still had lights on in the room I couldn't tell that there was an issue but once I actually went to bed and turned all the lights off, it was glaringly obvious. Because of the beauty of the atrium and to show it off, hotel staff don't ever want to shut off the lights, the light from that room shines into your room ALL night long while you try to sleep (even with the curtains closed because it shines in from the sides and top since the curtains aren't big enough and arranged in a way to block out that light). If you don't have an issue with light while you sleep, you'll be fine. But if you prefer a cave-like room, this is not the room for you.

On my last night I also found out that all rooms have a scent plug-in, according to the housekeeping staff person who came to remedy this situation this is because all the rooms have a musky odor to them that the hotel just can't get out and need to mask. I wouldn't have noticed except that the plug-in ran out of scent. The A/C is a little loud but if you like white-noise, you won't mind it. By the way, the housekeeping staff was extremely nice and helpful at all hours.

Part of our booking included a breakfast at the Veranda Bistro, the breakfast was tasty and the omelet chef was really nice. Servers treated the male guests/dinners with courtesy and efficiency (I traveled with both male and female coworkers), but seemed to have no interest in providing good service to female dinners. Front desk staff were hit and miss when it came to being helpful.

Bonus: as you exit the hotel's main lobby (but before you make it to the sidewalk), there is a pharmacy/general store on your left hand side that opens early and closes late and on your right hand side there is a Sanborn's Restaurant also open early and closed late.

FYI: I was 7 and 1/2 months pregnant at the time and was overall very pleased with this hotel but especially the location.
