The El Camino Real at Polanco is an old and huge hotel. Despite being well kept, signs of time are evident. It has all the problems of a very large hotel, distances are phenomenal and an imposing sensation of not being friendly. The staff however is quite friendly and helpful.
I have attended a meeting there. The architecture does not make easy to move from the room side to the convention side of the same hotel.
On the positive side: there are many good restaurants located inside the hotel.
On the negative side: this small-city type of hotel is overpriced.

Currently staying in this hotel during a tour in Mexico and it is hosting a conference with lot of people and no focus on details but only on tips.
Rooms are old and quite sad with normal breakfast.
If you can chose I'd go some where else and definitely is not a 4 star.

This was my first trip to Mexico and although on business, I did have some time to get to know the place. The location of the hotel is excellent for exploring the local town of Polanco, which is similar to any local town, full of bars, restaurants and shops of all types. Outside of the hotel there is a busy road where you can get local taxis, although the hotel and most local people, would tell you not too. If you want a taxi, you can get one at the hotel at anytime, and they are far nicer vehicles, although you will pay more, but not that much. The safest cab business from the airport to the hotel is Taxi 300, a stand in the airport arrivals and this is a trip of 45 mins depending on traffic and it was $375 pesos, so just over £15.

The check in was no problem with everyone being very helpful and I asked for a high floor and room away from the lifts, which I was given. The room, although dated, was very clean and well equipped with a big walk in shower, double bed and all amenities. My room, 5104, didn't have any view however, except for a wall and I could hear the disco until it finished about 0100. So, ask for a room with views and as far away from the disco, which I think was on the third floor, as possible.

The gym was well equipped and the pool was good, again dated, but big enough to swim and lots of sun beds and shaded tables. The BEST part has to be the breakfast buffet. I have travelled and this has to be the most extensive, with all european foods, but as you might expect, all Mexican food freshly cooked if you like, available. The other thing is the choice of restaurants, which are actually in the hotel. They are all independent so you can't put the bill on your room, but if you don't want to venture out, you have everything you want in the place you are staying.

Room Tip: Apart from the disco, all rooms are quiet but ask for a room with a view away from the disco.

The moment when you arrive to this hotel, you are seduced by its beauty. Very we'll designed and beautiful colors make all spaces in the hotel are spectacular. The hotel is pricy if you think about the service you get. They want to charge you for everything. I don't really go back to this hotel.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights with my family and friends. First surprise, our 3 children are in one room, as mentioned when I made our bookings, but there are only 2 regular beds, we asked for the third bed, it is 50 US$ per day ! I spent 30 mns explaining that all was mentioned in my correspondance with the hotel, but nothing works: a stubborn response of a manager: "company policy, we have to charge 50 US$ per night". Internet wifi needs to be charged too, 180 pesos a day ! Business center also charge 80 pesos per hour to use a computer. Do not even try to order a regular taxi from the hotel, you will be forced to take a limousine car that will charge you 3 to 5 times the price of a regular taxi, "company policy" I wonder, are they so cheap to get commissions from this service too ? All of this is not very prestigious rather very cheap, very far from the prestige of this hotel few years back. The hotel itself is now very old, the rooms are big but from another time, low counters, old rough marble with rotted joins in the bathroom, unstable electric plugs for the lamps, very dark lighting, a temperature of the AC totally impossible
to regulate. Clearly a place to renovate to be on pare with newer hotels of the town. Last but not least, the food is very average, we have tested the "Italian" and the breakfast, all processed food, from the bread to the can fruits mixed with fresh fruits at breakfast. I could be wrong but I believe that this hotel enjoy of a great location, great conference rooms and is therefore enjoying a corporate customer base that do care much of what they get for what they pay because company pays ! Definitely not a place to consider if you want to get a luxurious treatment and a qualitative premises and service according to modern standards. Sooner or later the management will surely realize it. I hope....

Located in the Polanco area of Mexico City , this hotel is ideally situated to take in the history that is Mexico . Our last stay was three years ago , not much has changed in decor or room condition . The room rates are high for what you get , our room overlooked the courtyard , was real actively quite while our friends room faced the street and was noisy . There are lots of options to dine in the hotel . Breakfast is either Al la carte or buffet ,the variety is good but pricy . There are lots of staff through out the hotel whether at the front desk , bell men or room service . They do need to get wi fi service costs included in hotel room rate , it is expensive as an addition .For outside dinning or shopping it is ideally located , just a few blocks away . Overall the experience was acceptable .

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does Not overlook the street ,but a courtyard

I have been staying at this hotel while on my business trip in the city; I have been more less satisfied with the service and even got a Circulo Real membership (free of charge)... I repeated my stay as the location is very convenient for my daily meetings in the area.

I have chosen this hotel again this year, in May, as I was going to meet a family member there and we'll be spending the week-end together. No! It was a nightmare since the day 1:
Terrible front desk attitude, smelly room, old mattress... I had to change room the next day as it hurt my back and got headache. The wifi is very expensive so I did not used it, they charged me a fee to print the boarding pass when the guest service staff confirmed over the phone there was no charge to get the document printed... and much more situations I had that made me decide I will no longer stay at that hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay at the ground level. Don't use internet nor room service, it is very expensive. C...
