You have to go, walk, visit and eat in Mexico City Downtown area to really get a flavor of what Mexico is all about. The history of the builidings, the sounds and movement of people (can get a bit crazy) and all the eating options make it a fantastic 4 to 6 hour visit. Afterwards you will really feel you have been in Mexico.

The Centro Historico is currently swarming with armed police as part of an anti-crime crackdown. We were stopped by two police demanding money in the Calle de Republica de Cuba. Be aware that you can wander two blocks from the cathedral and be in a very dangerous part of town. Don't repeat our mistake!

Walk downtown... spend some hours there, go up the Cathedral, go to Templo Mayor and visit the public building where you have afreschi done by Diego.

Full of contrasts from the Cathedral to the beautiful 300 year old buildings, archeological site to the hundreds of stores that operate their day to day business. Thousands of people still do all their daily lives downtown Mexico. The tourist part of it you can not miss when visiting, its amazing !
