We absolutely loved staying here. This was a classy older hotel - the spaces were big - a back resting area with an extra sofa bed for our kids - a balcony window overlooking the square. We loved watching the flag ceremony from our room. This place is from a different time with a different sense of luxury - so much character!! Would absolutely stay again and recommend to others. Roodtop restaurant was great. bed was comfy. Bathroom was big and clean and well-updated.

A wonderful occurrence when an establishment lives up to its name, and that is certainly the case with the legendary Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico. This gracious, gorgeous grand dame of Mexico City hotels proudly maintains its noble position just off the massive Zocalo in the Centro Historico, providing an elegant but friendly, and remarkably reasonably priced, domicile for those lucky to stay there. From the magnificent Art Nouveau lobby, with its incredible stained glass ceiling and turn-of-the-century cage elevators (which guests can use once after checking in), to its very large, stately and comfortable rooms, the Gran Hotel fulfills its name and its reputation. Every employee, from the desk (many thanks to Manuel, Jorge and the delightful young woman whose name I unfortunately do not recall) to the bellmen (Javier, Victor and Enrique), and the lovely women who service the rooms, are warm, friendly and helpful in every instance. With the city's extraordinary history echoing through its hallways and just outside in vibrant central district, there is no better place to stay in CDMX.

We went to try their restaurant. And we were please to have experience it. The view of the Zocalo is breathtaking! The food served were really good and nothing strange to our taste. Plus, the servers are warm and friendly. All these made my birthday really special. 😊 PS. The building is an attraction with rich history and heritage. Special mention to the ceiling and chandelier that are really stunning!

This is an excellent place to stay
It's really handy and the terrace restursnt was great. Great service too. The only thing that let's or down is the very average breakfast. Both with food and service. Staff werent too bothered about helping. So dont suggest you get breakfast included and find somewhere else to eat.

We decided to have lunch at La Terraza, up a spiral staircase to the outdoor covered rooftop terrace. The view is of the Zocalo, Catedral Monumental and Palacio Nacional in Centro Ciudad de Mexico. Our servers were Alejandro and Manuel, very attentive, professional and personable. They made sure we had a special experience. We opted for the price fixe lunch of $490 MX pesos ($26 US). It included a delicious and beautifully presented appetizer of mushrooms, onions and crema. Very good. The main course was sea bass in a lemon butter and almond cream sauce with grilled vegetables and potato croquets. Again, wonderful presentation and delicious. The dessert was a chai cake with chocolate and green tea ice cream. The mixture of flavors was divine. Again, beautiful presentation and delicious. The value for the ambience, service and food was so amazing. We will definitely return and ask for Alejandro and Manuel.
