I have been to Mexico City many times for business and pleasure. I love the city. I have been to many world capitals, but Mexico and the Mexican spirit and the Mexican love of the people draw us back. I usually stay in Zona Rosa district which was a central spot for me to be escorted to conduct my business.
This time we opted, now that I am retired, to stay in closer to the history of the city. The downtown historical plaza, Zocalo, was the spot! And there my friends, I found Gran Hotel Ciudad De Mexico! What a find! I cannot in all my years think of a nicer hotel stay.
Our plane arrived late. It was raining. Dark. Our taxi rental at the airport got us to the hotel but because of some construction, had to drop us off on a pedestrian alley. Lugging our luggage, the Gran Hotel Ciudad valet came running down the alley with an umbrella. We had arrived to a palace.
The inside is beyond belief. The pictures are no where near the beauty you see with your own eyes. The staff quickly greeted us with welcomes and glasses of champaign! We were given a short description of the hotel, history, amenities, etc.
We were escorted to Master Suite, and entering asking myself; “ who made me King??”
The room(s) huge, beautiful crown molding, king bed draped, a spacious bathroom; everything sparkling clean. I must make a mention of water pressure. I require a nice long, hot shower every morning, not a luke-warm dribble! The water pressure ant hot water plentiful. Two separate thermostats kept the rooms extremely comfortable. But it was the extraordinary view from our balcony over Zocalo Plaza that most impressed. I felt as though I should have delivered a speech to My People.....
Lots of shopping, bars, banks close by. The Gran Hotel Ciudad restaurant La Terezza on the roof was excellent!
In summary we will be back to the generous love of the Gran Hotel Ciudad; with Cynthia, Gabriela, Manuel, Jaime, Victor, Karen and many more! God Bless.
