“Solid Business Hotel - Great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

The Intercontinental Mexico City is a "classic" for business travellers to the city. Apparently, this is where many foreign VIPS come (the Chinese president stayed there at his last visit - June 2013 if I remember well). I have stayed there various times between May and September 2013 for business purposes.

Positive aspects: fantastic location (close to Chapultepec park which is great for running, and at a walking distance to the lively Polanco bars and restaurants), a good choice of restaurants within the hotel itself (French, Italian, Chinese,...), great view (particularly the park views), good service. Negative aspects: rooms a bit old fashion (I understand they are progressively renovating them), can be a bit noisy by night (no great noise isolation). I would have appreciated a swimming pool (a real pity), but to be fair, the gym is nice (with a view as well). Some tips: the buffet brunch on Sunday morning/afternoon at La Chimenea restaurant is a good option, ask for a park view room (really worth it I tell you), restaurant Le pied de cochon is 24/7, which can be helpful when you are dealing with serious jetlag...

I must add that I paid my company negociated prices which made the rates very reasonable for this category of hotels (daily rate: 140$ without taxes). Overall: a solid choice for business travellers: not necessarily exceptional but no bad surprises! I always come back to the Presidente...

Room Tip: Pick-up a park view room!

Dear guest,

Thank you for staying with us and for your great comments about our hotel. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us, our location, restaurants, view and most of all the service provided. Regarding your comment “a bit old fashion”, as you mentioned we are progressively renovating the hotel and we started this September 2013 with our guestrooms. We hope to have the honor of welcoming you back in the future to provide you with the same good service and renewed rooms.

Sincerely,

The hotel is in a good location and in general is very good qualiy. The staff are helpful and the decor is of a good standard, although as previous reviewers have noted, a little tired and in need of renovation. Mexico City is expensive, and so the hotel is reasonable value despite the room cost. The breakfast is good with a wide selection on offer. However, if you only want a light breakfast, $30 per person is high, so I recommend going to the bar opposite reception which serves coffee, cakes, croissants.

Overall I had an enjoyable week here on business.

A wonderful place to stay for the international traveler. Great service by all the staff, an awesome bar/lounge area. The restaurants are fabulous. Great area of D.F., felt very safe walking around and there is plenty of do and see around the area.

Hotel was disappointing. Common areas were nice. Rooms were not up to Intercontinental standards. They were very dated. Food was average and we ate in several of the restaurants. Especially disappointing was the breakfast/brunch. The buffet here would be more befitting a Holiday Inn. Will not stay here again.

Room Tip: I dare say there is not a good room to choose.

Dear guest,

Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your comments about our hotel. I am sorry you did not enjoy our breakfast buffet, we constantly strive to provide an environment of comfort and value to our guests, therefore, we are very unhappy about your experience. Rest assured, your input will be shared with our management team and rectify any unsatisfactory experiences. Regarding your comments about our guestrooms we have to admit that they need to be rehabilitated, and as a matter let me mention that we already started renovating some of the rooms. It is a pity that you have such a bad impression of our hotel and we would like to change it if you give us the opportunity to serve you in the near future to provide you with the service and rooms you expect from an InterContinental hotel.

Really 5 stars! Great location, great view of Chapultepec park, next to the best restaurants. The pie de Cochon restaurant inside the hotel is very good (French speciality). If you have time, visit Villa Maria restaurant, typical food with mariachis as the soundtrack of the night

Spent a few days here August 2013. While it is a long taxi ride from the airport, it is ideally located for businesses situated around the Miguel Hidalgo borough [a lot of international companies and embassies here]. It has all the usual high end amenities, and costs, associated with this class of hotel; however the surrounding area is safe [with sensible precautions] and easy to walk around for restaurants and bars. Would stay here again. [I highly-recommend walking over the road to the P+W restaurant & bar]

Spent one night on a layover in Mexico City. Perfect as we wanted to dine once again at Au Pied du Cochon, just off the lobby, as we really enjoyed it on a trip here several years ago. Check-in was friendly and efficient, as was the bell service and doorman. Room with a great view was clean and spacious and not as outdated as some of the reviews here would leave one to believe. Bed was very comfortable and aided in a good night's sleep. Restaurant hit the mark...our pig's feet were delish! Service was spot on. The neighborhood is really prime and quite charming. Most surprising was the price. Similar hotels in major cities around the world would cost at least twice as much. Well done. I'm sure that the planned room rehab will make this property shine and we will definitely plan on it again for our next stay in DF.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your preference and for sharing your comments about your experience in our hotel. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us, our location, room, bed, service and most of all our French restaurant Au Pied de Cochon a replica of the well renowned brasserie in Paris. We hope to have the honor of welcoming you back in the near future to provide you with the same good service and pig’s feet we did last time.
