My husband and I agree that this is the best museum of any type that either of us has ever been to. The introductory "experience" is more than your standard movie. If you want to see every area, plan at least a full day here. The entrance fee is low, but the restaurant is relatively expensive. That being said, the restaurant is a worthwhile and enjoyable rest in the middle of a long day.

I last visited this marvel 43 years ago when I was a student at the UNAM in Mexico DF....Now it is CDMX but thankfully this museum has only changed for the better. Already, a treasure of rare and wonderful pieces, now it houses even more! Great care has gone into the educational aspects but also into the lighting and showcasing of this world of pre-Colombian wonders! The entrance alone is as imposing as any museum I have ever seen! In addition of the treasure trove, the folks who work in the Museo are delightful and helpful. Since you will not want to leave and can easily spend an entire day here, it is good to know that the restaurant/cafe is as good and elegant as any 5 star restaurant. Try to reserve a table in the gorgeous patio if you can under the lovely grove of Jacaranda shade trees. Inside the restaurant is beautiful and elegant. The wait staff is as warm and comforting as the hand made tortillas which are stamped with the logo of this incredible place!

Fantastic anthropological museum, one of the best museums of pre-Columbian history in the world, it is worth knowing the history of Mexico of more than 5000 years of history, you will not regret it.

If you care about pre-Columbian civilizations, you must plan to spend a half day here. The museum was excellent in 1986 and its been significantly modernized and improved in the intervening decades. Tip: if you really, really love this museum, make a trip to Santiago, Chile. There's an equally rewarding pre-Colombian museum there with carefully chosen artifacts, timelines and maps. While this museum includes Central American civilizations, it embraces the entire South American continent.

Not a museum bug myself but this museum is fun and has a lot of things worth taking a minute to check and learn about. And its architecture - especially the fountain at the entrance are totally worth the visit.
