I went to Garibaldi with a tour group from a hostel where I was staying. We had a good time, more or less. It wasn't spectacular, but I got my tequila and mariachi fix. I didn't encounter any problems that other reviewers mentioned, but I could easily imagine that happening. If you want to go, go with a group of people and preferably with someone who's Mexican so they can help you out if you're in an uncomfortable position. If you stick to the plaza you should be fine. Just try to avoid the vomit as it gets later ;)

Great to see alle bands hanging out at Plaza Garibaldi for a wedding gig - or other way to make a pesos as marriachi musicans. Here you can hear many different kinds of marriachi bands - very average and popular bands, who plays the standard mexican folklore songs. You find bars around the plaza but be very carefull walking around here -and dont drink to much tequilla - Because there are many pickpocket thiefs hanging aorund here - i almost had to run to escape the gang that got there eyes on me.

One night at Plaza Garibaldi is a must. You will see and hear mariachi all over the place, let them take you to any of the restaurants on the square to taste tequila con sangrita accompanied with delicious meal and be able to see amazing spectacles of mexican folklor.

great place to experience the pride Mexicans have in their mariachi music. keep your wits about you if you go at night but we had no issues. you don't have to pay a lot but just walk around and take in the sounds.it has been a long time since I was there. good memories. 2003.
