We took the advice of the Monocle Travel Guide and spend a Sunday afternoon in Coyoacan. What a treat!
There were leafy cobblestone streets to explore, lovely coffee shops, interesting churches and a unique book store- Centro Cultural Elena Garro.
The squares were alive with people with their families out for a Sunday afternoon.
The huge park-Viveros de Coyoacan is not to be missed. Extremely peaceful and truly an urban forest.
We skipped seeing the Frda Kahlo house and museum as we did that last year but rather opted to just experience the neighbourhood.
The area around Mercado Artesanal Mexicano was extremely busy and we opted to not see the market on a busy Sunday afternoon.
All in all the neighbourhood walk would rate as one of the top Mexico City experiences this year.

So we decided on Mexico City for a week family trip. I can’t say that we regret one bit of it. There is so much to do that a week was maybe too little to do it all. We were near Coyoacan and visited the downtown area quite often. We thoroughly enjoyed some of the central restaurants, people watching and we especially missed out dog since it seemed almost everyone was walking their dogs around the park. We were informed that specifically on weekends the downtown park was a very busy area. Defiantly a family friendly area .... coyoacan is visited by many for its market, restaurants and activities. You won’t regret the calmness and easygoing nature of this place .

Even if you don't visit Frida Kahlo's museum, this is still a great place to take a walk, and feel traditional Mexican culture especially architectures. There are some lively markets and churches, as well as many old real estates opened for public as free museum. Also, I really liked restaurants around this area.

Coyoacan is hip. There are museums and shops and restaurants that offer so much to do for young, young at heart and even older folks. The area comes alive at night with music and an assortment of social activities to bring people together for fun. I was delighted by the many establishments that served vegetarian and vegan friendly foods and the vast assortment of trendy shops. This is the place to be if you visit Mexico City as there are clean, safe streets and lots of friendly people to meet.
