“Best Museum I've Been to in DF”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

I've been coming to DF for four years now and somehow this museum has evaded me. What a spectacular place. The three floors of murals by Jose Alfonso Orozco would be enough to recommend this site, but the exhibitions just capped off the experience. Most museums would never show you how they restore works of art, but this museum not only does, but makes it an exhibition space. The modern and contemporary art rivals any in the US; I loved the X Bienal Monterrey exhibit that was there during my visit. Many references to Mexico's own rich artistic heritage, but nods to Western artists like Jeff Koons, Jasper Johns, Marcel Duchamp, Nd Michelangelo Pistoletti as well.

“Mexican Muralism at its finest”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

There was a relatively interesting display of work from the recent Monterrey Biennial, but the real reason to visit San Ildefenso are the murals. Some of the most impressive in Mexico City.

“Best Contemporary Art in Mexico”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

Has really, really interesting contemporary art shows. You won't like everything you see, but you'll certainly have a lot to discuss afterward! Never dull.

“Usually not included in the must go but I loved it”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

After you visit the Zocalo and the Cathedral this place is only about 4 blocks away. A knowledgeable tour guide will show you around this very old "elite private school" that is full of mural paintings and will show you an old class room that has been well conserved and is just amazing. If you go the entrance is by Justo Sierra street not the San Ildenfonso street.

“For hard-core fans of Mexican mural painting.”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

San Ildefonso, a colonial era school, which later turned into Public Highschool # 1, is now a well maintained colonial museum, with beautiful courtyards, and impressive modern Mexican mural painting. Don't miss the main examination room, as well as the grand auditorium (to the right of the main building as you exit) with superb Diego Rivera murals!
