Situated in the Zocalo, this hotel has the best location that you can get in Mexico City. The entrance is on calle Madero that is pedestrian only. So no trafic noise. It has a nice restaurant with a view on the zocalo. The staff is polite and helpful.
You can walk calle Madero feeling safe when shopping.

We were three couples on a tour of the city and decided that we would stay at the Majestic for the 5 days we were in the city. We arrived after a very long 14 hour drive late, just wanted a room to sleep. Well we ended up moving 3 rooms till we got a room that was almost what we had asked for. The room overlooked the Zocalo, good job we had ear plugs with us. There was carpet on the floor in the room which was pretty old and dirty, the beds were typically hard. The room was quite large compared to some. We managed to get a floor fan for air movement as we had to shut the window to keep the room quieter. The restaurant food was good, staff helpful.
Generally, this is an old historic hotel that really could do with some updating, but because of the safe location it was bearable. We found the price was acceptable considering the local and all in all the staff helpful. We don't think we would go back there though.

Room Tip: Try and get an inside room if you want quiet, otherwise a corner overlooking the Zocalo if you want a view. Rooms overlooking Madero would be ok.

my daughter and i stayed here late january 2013. the motel was clean and the staff were incredibly helpful. the noise described in one review just did not happen. the view was amazing over the zocalo. Felt very safe and the travel agency within the motel was also excellent. I would go back again and again just loved it!!!

Room Tip: rooms with view of zocalo

I stayed at the Hotel Majestic for 2 nights. The hotel was clean, safe with security staffing the gates at night, and had very helpful staff. The beds were acceptable but not up to the overall quality of the hotel in other respects. The restaurant upstairs has an excellent breakfast buffet and has outdoor dining overlooking the Zocalo (central square) and was a marvelous place to drink my coffee and watch the sun rise over the city. Unfortunately, this central location comes at a price - it is VERY noisy at night, continuously until midnight and sporadically with yelling partiers until sunup. Earplugs (which ought to be standard travel issue and in your pack already - unless you are a numbskull like me and forgot yours) would fix the problem.

I booked a Best Western as I have been in the Best western in Paris Boulogne & Podgorica, which were quite nice. I stayed there 2 nights, and ran away towards another hotel.

The good points:
- Large rooms (at least mine, #608)
- Good location (in front of the Zocalo)

The bad points:
- Disgusting lunch (the T-bone was an old piece of meat, without any color and smelling quite strange)
- Breakfast is very poor for the price (130MXN)
- Rooms are dirty: your feet are black of dust after 10’ walking in the room, never had that in any other hotel
- Rooms in the 6th floor are very noisy: in the day (even in the night !) some stupid drunk people are shouting on the place of Zocalo, and at breakfast/lunch/diner times the customers on the 7th floor make noise dragging their chairs & tables
- No fitness center (they have the space for that !)

I will never come back there again !!

Room Tip: Never in the 6th floor. And ... do not choose a room in this hotel !
