“Nice building, good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2011

We stayed for 5 nights in 2 rooms and enjoyed the lovely building and the good location. Nevertheless, the rooms were very dark, shabby and loud. The connection door between the rooms couldn't e opened. The roof top terrace is beautiful with a fantastic view of the Zocalo, but the breakfast buffet leaves definitvely room for improvement. Good for a night or two, but 5 nights was too long. The internet connection is lousy and didn't work most of the time. The hotel computer is hopeless.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with Zocalo view. The interior rooms go to the patio and are very dark.

We enjoyed the location and chose our room to face the Plaza. It was a little noisy, but we loved opening the window and hearing the church bells and the hustle and bustle of Mexico City. It is on the walking street and easy to get around from there. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean. However, it is easy to see that they are not improving their rooms. We had lamps without bulbs and much of the room looked a little shabby. Wi-fi almost impossible to use and the "business" center computers are close to unusable. The restaurant, which has a great location, was had very average or below food. Wouldn't recommend it. Hallways echo and are noisy. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay.

Arrived on apparently the hottest day in Mexico City for 5 years (after 32 hrs of travelling from Australia). No airconditioning is ok, but being told that there were no electric fans available because it was a Saturday night and it was hot is not ok! First room very noisy due to overlooking the pedestrian mall, but cooler than an internal room overlooking the internal courtyard ( don't forget your earplugs). However, on the 2nd night chose the internal room as fans had become available. Make sure you wear socks in your room as our feet became black after walking on the carpet - internal rooms are dark and stuffy. Should have taken a room overlooking the Zocalo - they are noisy, but you can open the windows and earplugs work a treat.
Lots of cafes and restuarants close by. Money changers and an ATM across from the hotel.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Rooftop restuarant and bar are definite pluses. Great view of the Zocalo, Cathedral, Palace, Govt Offices and all the demonstrators and their tents! Atmospheric.
Not a fabulous hotel but its location is great and the hotel and its staff are full of charm.

Room Tip: Noise with view or Quiet with a dark room?

This was my second time in D.F. and my second time staying in this hotel. My last time staying here was in 1994 when it was almost brand-new.

It was a complete deja vu, everything in the hotel was exactly how I remembered. The good thing is the deco which had a lot of mexican flavors, but for the same reasons, things were dated and in needs of renovation.

The location is superb - right on Zocalo! There are a couple of 24hr convenience stores nearby and many restaurants options as well. Several Metro lines are right around the corner.

Enjoying full breakfast at roof terrace was the best - bright orange sunny-side eggs accompanied by the majestic view of the Zocalo!

For the room, I realized there was no air-conditioner. But the electric fan was suffice and it helped buffer the street noise (I am a light sleeper as well). I slept quite well for the 2 nights we were there.

Compared back to 1994, nowadays there are no more street venders around the Zocalo - which is a complete disappointment. For me the street vendors and Aztec dancers add a lot more charms to this ever-energetic and fascinating plaza. It's used to be amazing to walk through Templo Mayor's outdoor pyramids with aztec dancer's rhythm fading in the background.

Now it's just a bit less exciting to say the least.

The hotel is dimly lit, the rooms are clean-ish, but with the Zocalo right outside the window and a nice pedestrian mall outside the hotel, who's complaining. Add the $60 price for a family of four with breakfast and I'm more than satisfied!

Room Tip: Ask for a Zocalo view room on an upper floor
