“Wonderful place”

Amazing piece of history here. The house is beautiful. It doesn't take much to imagine living there. A real stroll through nostalgia. The surrounding area is also really pretty. Certainly a must see if in Mexico City!

“Frida's home -- a must see!”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

Preserved now as a museum, much as Diego must have left it, the Casa Azul is a tranquil and colorful musuem where you feel like Frida is still wandering.

“Frida's heart in her art”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

A small plaque in the garden of La Casa Azul reads, " Frida is the only example in the whole history of art of someone who has torn open her breast and her heart to tell the biological truth of what she feels in them." --Diego Rivera
Frida Kahlo grew up in Casa Azul and then lived there in married life with Diego Rivera. It is a privilege to see the kitchen, dining room, bedrooms, and her studio as she lived there, and to see some of her art. Most interesting are the prosthetics, corsets, and clothes that she used to disguise the physical results of polio at age 6 and later, a debilitating accident with a street car when she was in her teens that eventually left her unable to bear children. These artifacts were left locked in a couple of rooms until many years after her death at the age of 47 at the request of Diego Rivera.
Her art speaks to her great pain of three miscarriages and a rocky relationship with Diego Rivera as well as her romantic and fiery temperament, relationships with Trotsky and others, and her deep loneliness. More than an art gallery can do, Casa Azul shows you Frida the person, her highly publicized life with the fascinating Diego Rivera, and explains where the sadness in her paintings emanates from...

“A Must!!!!”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

This was the first place my boyfriend and I visited once we got into town. Not only is it in the beautiful city of Coyoacan, but it is located away from the main plaza which gives you the ability to take in everything at a slower pace. Although I spent two to three hours at the museum I could have stayed much longer. Her artwork, clothing, and home tell her story in such a way that humbles any visitor. Make sure you visit the museum and leave plenty of time to take in everything.

One tip...we took a taxi from the Zocolo and it took 40-45 minutes because of traffic. We feel we were overcharged for the cab ride. We ended up taking the metro back to the Zocolo. It saved us money. If you don't mind the crowded metro, I'd recommend taking it as often as possible.
