“One of my favourite attractions in Mexico City.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

I visited this museum twice and it is one of my favourite places in Mexico City. I am fan of modern art, so for me it was interesting to see Mexican art from this period (which I wasn't overly familiar with before).

“Spectacular building but underwhelming exhibits”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

MAM is a wonderful space to be in. The building is a modernist classic. Looking up at the dome from inside seems almost like you are staring into the sun. The museum is a rotunda and is set within a beautiful and tranquil sculpture park. There is a further building behind with a shop and reading spaces.

Given how great a space MAM is, I was a little underwhelmed by the exhibitions on display when I visited. I certainly couldn't call any of them world class although there was a decent photographic exhibition. I think the limited quality of the exhibits was underlined by the fact that the museum was virtually empty. In my opinion, MAM is a little overshadowed by the recently refurbished, and neighbouring, Rufino Tamayo Museum which appears to have a much stronger handle on modern art. If you are in the neighbourhood, I recommend checking out both and if you are a teacher with ID both are free.

“Interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2012

Building is beatiful, really. The place has a taste of Hispanic golden age (we had some felling in San José / Costa Rica city center).
Mural paintings are interesting, but unless you are communist fanatic you will have some troubles with the artistic message. We understood it was a special political context the 20's-30' in Mexico.
Go to the 8th floor of the Sears shop nearby in the cafeteria for the best pictures of the building (and also panoramic view of Mexico city center)
