Step inside and leave behind the chaos of the world outside. What a nice way to spend the morning when it's nice and cool. We hired the guide at the foot of the stairs, which turned out to be the best decision. (Fair price, too.) Don't miss the two shops: The larger one was my favorite for the selection.

“The Diego Rivera murals are mesmerizing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2014

If you visit the Palacio Nacional right on the Zócalo, please make sure you have a guide with ample knowledge of Diego Rivera's murals. They are beautiful, full of history and little nuggets. Don't keep to the stairs, wonder into the second floor and see the other paintings with details of daily life.

“well, it's for the murals and totally impressive they are too”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2014

Well, the main ones are by Diego Rivera in the huge stairwell that has been very well conserved. This is a mural anout 400 years of Mexican history depicting the good, and often bad, things that appened. The pre-columban inians, the Spannish conquistadors, peasant life, revolution. All very graphic, but as such murals should be, a wonderful interwoven set of themes painted with great feeling. You often have to go back to vignettes to see what they are really trying to say. Some depict brutal horror, but these are balanced by feeling and sympathetic scenes

Beautiful murals and great exhibits. Line is a bit long to get in and very tight security as expected.
