Owner description: This historic building was once occupied by Hernán Cortés, the Spanish explorer who conquered the Aztecs, and includes a famous panoramic mural of Mexican history by Diego Rivera.

The National Palace is worth a visit. Very good Diego Rivera murals are on sight and on their own justify a visit to the national palace.

Also, don't miss the botanical garden in the back yard, really fresh and nice to have rest after walking around the Centro Historico all day.

Bring id as they request it to grant you entrance to the palace.

This is located in the zocalo plaza, you will find this building that is constructed on a colonial style, most of the buildings in the surroundings have been kept in the same format, big plaza with a lot of people, vendors, street performers and more to see.

The magnificent Rivera murals are a must. First, dedicate a long while to the giant mural at the principal staircase, depicting the history of Mexico. Try to find Frida Kahlo! Then, at the first floor, the Tenochtitlan murals are delightful. Expositions are not as important.

On weekends, many Mexicans follow their democratic urge and demonstrate on the Zocalo in front of the Palace. That triggers the federal police and military to close the front entrance and security barriers facing the plaza. You may think that access to the palace is denied until the demonstration, manifesto, etc. is over - and the young guard may even tell you that. But - it is not so: side street Moneda, along the north walls has an entrance for visitors and tourists. Pass through scanner, bag inspection (no water, etc.) and have a picture ID available, no entrance fee. Enjoy the murals - pictures without flash are allowed, as well as the senate chamber, art exhibits, the Benito Juarez history museum and expansive grounds.
