“Zocalo Square has everything”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

You can see so much just by visiting this square. The president's office, "The Cathedral" of Mexico City (the Cardinal was there the day we went), behind are Aztec ruins Templo Mayor and an archaeological museum. Do all of this in a few hours and have your choice of restaurants, parks and other beautiful buildings nearby like the opera house and the post office. Don't miss any of these. Mexico City is beautiful.

“Central square”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

This an enormous square dominating the center of the historical district. Around its edges are the National Palace, the Cathedral, artisan shopping, restaurants. Unfortunately one side is currently occupied by a tent city of teachers who are on strike and fighting with the Mexican administration. A large police presence ensures that it is safe, and the striking teachers did not stop a rock concert played on a stage erected at the weekend for the event. Choose to visit on a windy day to capture a photo of the magnificent Mexico flag that stands in the middle.

“Colorful center of the city”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

We have taken the Touribus to Zocolo twice now and each was a different experience. On the weekend the area around the cathedral is filled with vendors selling handmade items, Aztec dancers and shamans performing cleansings. There is nearly always a protest forming in Zocolo to march to Reforma. The protests are called manifestations and can shut down main roads for hours.
During the week the plaza, which is one of the largest city squares in the world, is less colorful, but we were able to find a guide to describe the history in the area as well as the archeological dig going on currently. He was fascinating. We also toured the cathedral.
Zocolo has hosted free concerts from performers such as Paul McCartney, Justin Bieber and Shakira.
I highly recommend taking part in the cleansing as it was rather magical and made for good pictures.

“Literally Breathtaking”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

The Zocalo is absolutely stunning. I couldn't get enough of just looking around this massive plaza and imagining all the history that must have gone on there!

I went on Sunday and the local market was really bustling. I got some really great deals on unique souvenirs. There was music and indigenous dancers. Overall a great place to visit.
