“An Oasis in the Heart of the City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2014

Los Mercaderes is located right in the heart of Mexico City's Centro Historico, near the Templo Mayor, the Cathedral and the Zocalo (the city's main plaza.) The noise and bustle of the city are left behind upon entering this lovely restaurant, where the service is good and the food delicious. I am in Mexico City quite often, and have returned numerous times to Los Mercaderes. On various occasions I have had soups, salads and main dishes, all consistently good. However, the charge for bottled water is way out of line, and for this reason, I am taking away a star.

“change of policy needed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

The service was almost exaggeratedly polite and the food very good, but when the waiter complained that the tip was not enough everything turned sour. Compulsory tipping in London is bad enough, we don't expect it in Ciudad de México.

“A very calm, relaxed environment with really good food”

In amongst a bustling part of down town Mexico we came across a small but fantastic restaurant. The service was excellent, the food really tasty and for the adventurous there were some local delicacies to choose from.

“Great food, good serive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2014

Good idea to make a reservation, Great & clean flavors, nice environment. I would give 5 stars except for the coffee. There were a trick offering me a coffee from a regular machine or "fresh?" Little more expensive. Should be always a great coffee?

“Elegant but very reasonably priced”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

This restaurant had been recommended by a guide we used in Mexico City. I have to say that it gave me the impression that it is not the sort of restaurant I would normally choose to eat in, especially wearing shorts and a casual shirt. However, in we ventured. It looks like a fine-dining establishment. Starched table-cloths, immaculately dressed serving and waiting staff. A sort of hushed reverence pervaded the place. I looked somewhat timorously at the menu but saw prices which were very reasonable. There was a good choice, Mexican dishes as well as food suitable for those who do not appreciate the local food. I had a glass of wine, chosen from a quite wide selection, although quite expensive. The overall impression of my party was that this was a restaurant providing very good food and service.
