We needed a room for seven nights and had no reservation. Other reviewers directed me to this hotel and I was not disappointed. The obliging desk clerk found us a room which was spotless, if basic. No cable TV, no heating, no bathtub but for the price (500 pesos a night), impossible to complain.

This hotel has an attached restaurant, open every day except Sunday. There are two convenience stores nearby, a branch of the Chenaui supermarket chain a little further and the Metro a little past that. The area is full of hotels and small restaurants. At night, it pays to be aware of your surroundings, definitely.

Most rooms are built around an airwell which is well-lit and maintained. I would definitely stay here again.

We lucked out by finding a room at the Hotel San Diego after our Saturday night hostel reservation had been cancelled.

Miraculously, this hotel was cheaper than our room in the hostel, but had everything I could have asked for in a hotel. A giant bed, which was more comfortable than most I experienced in Mexico. Flat screen TV, radio, internet (sometimes in and out). Simple no frills furniture. But most important, the place was immaculate. It smelled good, like fresh soap, and the bathroom was literally sparkling.

And the staff was very kind and helpful.

My boyfriend loved the breakfast.

One thing to note is that although this is near the Zocalo, I think the neighborhood can get a little bit seedy at night. However, I was in at night and out in the morning, so for me it was really the perfect stay.

Stayed at this hotel for eight nights and have zero complaints. The hotel is located in a not so attractive area in the fringes of centro historico. Even though this area may have lacked beauty it made up for it with all the cafes and cantinas that lined the street. We ate at several and were all delicious and reasonably Priced. The hotel staff was always helpful and friendly. No safe box at his hotel but you can leave you're valueables in a sealed envolpe at reception with confidence.the rooms were immaculately clean and smelled fresh everytime we returned. several metro stations are walking distance as well as the amazing street food. I recommend this hotel.

Hotel San Diego is a very good alternative in Mexico DF. In fact, it offers a good price, not too expensive, but not too cheap to be considered as a place for just some hours... The rooms are clean, the staff very friendly. Besides that, the hotel has a very good location : a few blocks from Alameda Central, and like 3 minutes from the next underground station.
