“Good food, lousy service”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

We chose this restaurant because of it's proximity to the Auditorio Nacional and went for a late lunch before an Elton John concert. The inside part is grand and Parisian with attractive murals, but a bit dark for lunch so we sat outside on the nice little terrace. Everything started out well enough and we all liked our starters, especially my Endive, Pear and Roquefort salad that was a whole, enormous endive. Three of us ordered the much recommended steak with Foie Gras, mine was perfect but 2 others were very underdone. The fat French fries were attractive and good but the limpish watercress dumped on the side of the plate, unimaginative and sad. The lamb didn't look very nice, but apparently was, and the Sashimi was abundant and delicious.
The problem was the service which started out all right (even the Sommelier, not usually known for their charm, was not TOO stand-offish) but slowed down to completely non-existant towards the end of the meal. I am guessing it was staff meal time. We had allowed plenty of time to eat but ended up panicking as we waited and waited and waited for the bill, ... I am still waiting for the electronic invoice which as of today has not arrived.
It was a very expensive meal and I know that you can do better both in quality and price within a few blocks.

“Not special”
Reviewed February 26, 2012

Very expensive and really nothing special. I liked the dinner in the Executive Suite of the hotel better!

“Great food and professional service!”
Reviewed February 9, 2012

Try Lipp if you are looking for an elegant place, excellent service and very good French dishes.
If you have been in the original Lipp, in Paris you will find a more extensive menu in the Mexico City branch (in Paris they dont offer Onion Soup), much more confortable tables and best service. This is one of the few cases in which the original house is not the best.
Mexico City's Lipp is an excellent option for tasting good French dishes in a very nice place, wonderful personal who will make you feel at home!
Excellent wine list and great recommendations from their Sommellier!

“Very good indeed!!!”
Reviewed January 28, 2012

I'm picky when it comes to food that's why I love Lipp Brasserie. This is a very nice restaurant, beautifully decorated and located in Polanco. Sometimes waiters don't seem very happy but in general waiters in Mexico are very helpful. Lipp serves great food and the menu has enough options for different people with different tastes... even mine! Recommend tuna tartar and mango sorbet!!!

“Brasserie Lipp - A taste of Paris in Mexico City”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

The weather was terrible in Mexico City this week so we chose not to venture far from our hotel for dinner - it ends up we didn't even have to leave the hotel. Brasserie Lipp is location in the JW Marriott - it is a tast of Paris in Mexico City. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a European cafe. The food is so good we ended up eating there two nights in a row!. The artichoke, hearts of palm salad and asparagu salad was excellent as was the red snapper and kobe beef hamburgers with pomme frite. Don't forget to order the chocolate souffle with your meal order. The big puffy souffle arrives at the end of the meal - large enough for four people - cut and covered in creme anglaise. YUMMY!
