“Fantastic restaurant outside of the city”
Reviewed November 28, 2013

On the advice of a family member, we decided to get out of the hustle of the main city and go to this very well restored Hacienda in Tlalpan. The grounds have been immaculately restored and maintained and the food was outstanding. Definitely worth the slight effort of making the journey to see as the main city square is very picturesque and shows more what small city life is like in Mexico.

“Amazing place - definitely visit!”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

This is an absolute gem of a place. It is hidden away so cleverly but is essentially an old hacienda with a beautiful atmosphere and grounds. There are peacocks, swans (and the occasional cat) and the food is beautiful. Definitely try the escamoles or Mexican Caviar - it tastes like risotto. Steaks were perfectly cooked and although it's pricey for Mexico City, it came to about £30/head for 2 courses with alcohol and a tip. I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a nice meal in the area.

“Very Relaxing”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Simply put, this is a great place to relax. It is a beautiful restaurant (Hacienda style with a large central garden with peacocks) with excellent service and great food. We stayed for about 3 hours and nobody pressured us to leave. It is a little bit pricey by Mexican standards, about 50usd per person in total without wine, but is definitely an excellent "special occasion" restaurant.

“Gorgeous location, protected from traffic. Very good mexican dishes”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

Entering this hacienda means exiting for a while Mexico City's frenziness: the place is fenced by tall walls and has a large inner garden populated by peacocks (both the common, coloured ones and a very elegant, fully white sort).

We sat under a rooftop but still on the outside and could enjoy the time despite fresh evening temperatures.

The restaurant has and english speaking menu card, but beware: even on the english card, the true specialties are listed in spanish, on the top right corner. Good selection ranging from international dishes to classic spanish recipes to very special things.

In particular, break your mind's initial resistance and try Escamole: It is the eggs of a special ant, prepared in various ways, and it is tasty! And I mean *really* tasty.

Good choice of wines, including some Mexican ones (we had a good Syrah) and distinctive drinks. For the gin&tonic the waiter will ask you what gin specifically you wish, and the tonic water is a local brand.

Probably pricey for the locals, but in absolute terms good prices, particularly if compared to any US/EU city.

“Delightful Hacienda”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Hacienda Antigua is tucked behind stone walls in Tlapan and you would never guess the beauty that awaits you behind those walls. This Hacienda dates from 1837 in the heart of Tlapan. On entering the Hacienda I was amazed at its beauty. Peacocks, both white and turquoise strolled around the courtyard while swans floated around a pool. The ambience is wonderful reminding one of the opulence these haciendas offered and still do.
We sat at a table on the courtyard accompanied by three large fountains, it gave us a great sense of privacy. Although there were many people in the restaurant it felt intimate and delightful. The service was great, the food was very good and they offered live music in the afternoon. This is a great place to spend a leisurely afternoon enjoying the food and ambience.
