“Perfect Choice...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2010

We were 2 adults and 2 kids (12 and 14) and this hotel was the perfect choice. The location couldn't have been better - 5 minute walk to the Zocolo which is the centre of the city. Keep in mind you're not staying at this location for the peace and quiet - there is city and music noise for most of the night so if if you're a light sleeper, bring some earplugs!! There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby and great people watching!! We didn't like the restaurant Garabatos (too expensive and boring food) and we didn't try the seafood restaurant. The free breakfast was perfect for us - we didn't have to worry about going out and choosing somewhere to eat each morning and it meant that some could eat and others could continue sleeping. The food was fresh and always hot. The staff was excellent - arranged 2 taxi's for us and surprisingly, the private taxi back to the airport was cheaper than the official taxi from the airport to the hotel. The hotel was clean and the rooms were excellent. We had a 2 bed suite so had an extra sitting room with a pull out couch. The beds were comfortable but the pull out couch was painfully uncomfortable! Overall, this was a perfect choice - we almost choose a hotel near the Paseo de la Reforma but glad that we didn't because this location offered much more city action and we felt it was 100% safe to walk around at night.

This good-looking hotel is in a safe location, about 10 mins walk from Zocalo and the other big Centro attractions. There is a large pharmacy next door. The area is swarming with police. After 9 pm it does get very quiet, though, and there isn't a great selection of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, or any bars.

The hotel itself offers clean rooms, spacious bathrooms (glass-doored showers!), a fitness centre (treadmill and dumbells), a business centre (2 PCs; free wifi throughout the hotel), coin-op laundry, free coffee throughout the day, and complementary buffet breakfast.

The breakfast was very good. There are the traditional bacon and eggs and continental options with donuts and crossaints and varieties of youghurts, but also excellent local fare which was different each of the four mornings we were there.

Staff were helpful and spoke and understood English fluently.

The one problem was the sewage smell. I hesitate to include this part, because it sounds worse than it is, but it has to be said. Walking through the streets of Mexico City you will frequently be blasted in the face with the stench of sewage. It's just the way it is. That said, you'd hope to escape this when in the comfort of your hotel room. However, in our fifth floor room here, at night we would occassionally get a waft. It wasn't a night-long thing, and on a couple of nights it wasn't detectable at all. But it wasn't pleasant. This may however be unavoidable in this city. I don't think it's a serious issue unless you're extremely sensitive about these things.

At the front are two restaurants, both of which are advertised on the hotel's web site -- Garabato's and Fisher's. For whatever reason, we made the mistake of eating at Garabato's every night but the last. It's clean and quiet and the service is good, which may be what kept drawing us back, but the food is unbelievably bland.

Our last dinner in Mexico was at Fisher's, and I have to say it was one of the best meals I've ever had. The mid-priced rivals touted in the guidebooks and in online forums, such as Cafe Tacuba and Sanborns, simply do not compare. Fisher's has an enormous seafood menu (I understand there is a separate non-seafood menu, which we did not ask for), from which we ordered five different dishes (and some more than once). All were spectacular and tasted almost startingly fresh and original. The citrusy crab and coriander soupy salad thing was mindbendingly good. The three of us gorged like Roman nobility and the bill only came to like 450 pesos.

So, even if the rest of the positives this hotel offers aren't enough to sway you, stay here for Fisher's.

A modern and beautifull hotel built in a renovated historical building gives as a result an experience at the same level as in any other important city in the world. It proofs that Mexico City is a city worth visiting as Rome, Paris or Madrid.

My overall experience at this hotel was very good. The costumer service was excelent, the staff was helpful and attentive. The included breakfast was ok, not the best. The only bad thing I can say about this hotel is the internet is so sloooooow, but it's free so I guess I can't complain.

This hotel was great! I enjoyed staying here and it is in a great location. It is so convenient to everything. Also in the centro at the sqaure was great every night I was here they were doing some kind of show in the evening plus with fireworks. There is so much too see and do here in Mexico City. I really enjoyed myself and can not wait to come back and hopefully I will stay longer to enjoy it more.
