... and that's why I keep coming back. Truth of the matter is Benkay has the best fish and traditional dishes of any Japanese restaurant I've been to in Mexico City. They really have the lot: imported fish, local fish, sushi dishes, hot dishes, traditional meals, Japanese beers, a wide range of Sake, very good service and a very very nice setting.

But... it is expensive. A full meal at Benkay with beers (no sake) will cost around USD 100 per person (and it can easily go over if you're inspired). So enjoy, but proceed with caution (unless you're not the one paying for it).

5 stars for the food / service / ambiance... 4 stars for the price.

We like japanese food and have visited most well regarded japanese restaurants in Mexico City and Benkay is by far the best.
It is located inside the Nikko hotel which is owned by Japan Airlines, so it is very authentic. Benkay was recently relocated and remodeled within the hotel building itself. It appears to be a bit smaller than before but atmosphere is a bit warmer.
Most japanese restaurants in the city place too much emphasis on sushi and do not offer too many other japanese options; that is not the case here, you can order many other authentic dishes like sashimi, shabu shabu, sukiyaki, etc. and you can rest assured that everything will be done done to perfection.
The sake list is impressive, japanese beer is also available. The waitresses wear cute kimonos and cater to you with a smile.
Parking is available inside the hotel but expensive, even after the free hour or so you get from the restaurant.
Request a table by the window facing the pebble garden, it is very peaceful.
Opens daily from 13:00 to 23:00 hrs.

It's in a japanese hotel (you can park there). This is a great restaurant. Food is very fresh and they use high quality ingredients. I've been there several times in 2011 and totally recommend it. My favorite dishes are the spinach salad (starter), the tuna sashimi (so fresh) and lychee sorbet (my favorite). It's not cheap but it's worth a visit every now and then. Can't wait!

This restaurant in the Nikko hotel was outstanding, we stayed at the hotel on business and on the first night went there. We chose a combo menu in which the chef picks 5-6 different specialties and they are served in sequence. I had never had that in a Sushi restaurant before, so was skeptical, but it was absolutely delicious and filling, at an excellent price, although we were not concerned about price. We loved the place so much, we went back one more time prior to leaving the hotel.
