“Not quite there yet--”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

Biko has many things going for it that should make it a top restaurant ... But it lets itself down...The food is good and some of the food is outstanding ,but there are several problems that stop it from reaching the mark of a top place to dine....Its not the food , its the service...The staff ,during the meal,do not pay particular attention to the diners, but are chatting amongst themselves ,standing in a group against the back wall,so if you need one its like hailing a taxi... Once you can get one to the table the service is good,it is a matter of getting their interest to begin with...Another area where there is a need are the tables themselves..No flowers ,no candle, all of which are a decision by whomever ,but some of the tables have no real light and are sort of in a shadow and lack any joy while others are quite nicely lit.For small adjustments this could become the restaurant I think it aspires to be....

“For something a little different ...”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

It was by some miracle we managed to score a table at Biko. Long story, but don't show up without a) a reservation OR b) someone very influential standing behind you who can see the disappointment on your face and speaks to the right people etc ... the whole not what you know, who you know etc !!
We did the tasting menu (partly because I did not want to have to think too hard, the menu is in Spanish of course and when they do those trendy descriptions of food, I am lost!) and it was very good, innovative and all tasty except the pannacotta which was void of flavour. They put copper leaf on it which made the whole thing taste like fish. So I guess there was flavour but not the sort you expect for a dessert.
The people sitting at a table next to us said the food is as good as that of Pujol, another place that is hard to get into unless you have planned ahead.
Every course was explained when it was served, in simpler terms, which was helpful. Oh, and the Mexican wine is hideously expensive which I cannot figure out - not just here at Biko but in general at restaurants. It is a pity as they are v. good - we ended up with a v. good Spanish red though, which paired well with the whole tasting menu.
It is also quite nice inside, understated elegance.
I think it is worth going to once to experience something very different.
But be sure to make reservations !!!

“Expensive”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Small portions, big prices. The originality of the dishes is what stands the most, but I wasn't that excited about the flavour. The staff is very polite and are great at recommending if its your first time, I'm glad I went, but i would hardly go back.

“gourmet chic in heart of Mexico City”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

!Si! it's pricey but I wanted to see what Basque/Mexican fusion looked like; based on amazing ambiance, extensive wine list, and cutting edge gourmet it's a great value. Maybe the finest lamb chop I've ever eaten, which is saying a lot.

“Great but expensive!”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Biko is a great place. The food is amazing but it has two problems: the portions are really small and it is very expensive. It is for special occasions.
The best were the cheese plate, the spanish ham, the peppers with tuna.
The worst was the salmon with citrics, the foie.
The wine was very good. The decor is very Las Vegas. It's worth it but not to come back often.
