Elegant, sprawling hacienda with exquisite food and perfect service. Owned by the same "noble" family for hundreds of years, the Hacienda is a top class restaurant by any international standard. Physically the complex is gorgeous, has a lovely art collection and is worth visiting just to see. But there is so much more. Hacienda has the best of everything from the Spanish side of Mexico's tradition. The black corn soup was a delicious and surprising light starter. Then the special of the day, suckling pig, was a masterpiece of crisp skin covering melt-in-your mouth rich pork. All was accompanied by excellent tequila and good wine, served with friendly professionalism. I tried a friend's marinated red snapper and it was succulent. By the time the gorgeous desert cart appeared we were all too full but it looked wonderful. For the 5 star food/service and drinks, the price was very reasonable by international major city standards.

“One of the Best things México has to offer!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

The place is simply stunning with this old times atmosphere with a touch of Mexico's historic elegance! The food was really fantastic with a great balance of local meat, seafood and typical mexican dishes. The price is not bad and the service was outstanding. A must for every Mexico City culinary traveler!

“very beautiful place - not much choice for vegetarians”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

I went here as a group. The decision was already made to eat here. The place is really beautiful. Everyone of us commented on how nicely the place has been done up.

The one disappointment was that the restaurant could not come up with interesting food options for vegetarians. It took a whole lot of explanation to figure out what the vegetarians could eat.
(Probably a language barrier too).
Anyhow. Enjoyable experience otherwise.

The meat-eating folks really enjoyed their dinner!

“Terrible experience”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

In July we went with our 35 week pregnant daughter for lunch. She ordered a squash salad and when it arrived noticed it was primarily lettuce; she inquired if it had been properly sterilized and the waiter confirmed that it had been. Several hours later she was feeling very sick and went to the hospital. She stayed overnight and the doctors said she had contracted the worse type of bacteria from without any doubt at all the salad from the restaurant. This was a fact since she had eaten nothing at all that day with exception of the salad.

She was put on antibiotics for 1 week, but still was sick and then given a stronger dose of antibiotics for another 2 weeks. Aside from feeling very sick she was very distressed to have to take such strong medication during her pregnancy, fearing for the health of her child.

I telephoned the restaurant immediately and they said to send a mail. I did this and heard nothing. After 10 days I called again and they said someone would call. It wasn't until 10 days had passed did someone call from the restaurant but I was away. When I returned one week later I returned the call.

All he said was they were concerned about how was my daughter; I responded they could not be that concerned if it took 3 weeks to call. They said they had quality controls on the food but I replied they obviously were not in place that day.

At no time did he offer to speak to my daughter, or compensate in some way, pay the hospital bills, reverse the credit card. I hung up but after 40 minutes called back saying I planned to write a review. Then he said oh no, they wanted to invite the family to dinner to make up for it. I told him no way my daughter would return to the restaurant. I told him at least to reverse the credit card. To date, it has not been reversed.

I give this restaurant a ZERO rating for their attitude; in the US they would have been sued. I am not trying to downgrade a restaurant except I believe they should stand by and show some concern if a client gets ill from their food. My daughter says they poisoned her and her unborn child, she was very concerned and distressed about this.
