This is a place favoured by the locals; we and another table nearby were the only "gringos" and the place was half full for dinner on a weekday.

It's beautifully decorated with traditional Mexican motifs; there are strolling mariachis without the horns and violins, just guitars and mandolins, so they're not as loud as the ones on Plaza Garibaldi.

The food was excellent: very tasty, very Mexican. This was so much better than the famous (but bland) El Cardenal nearby. Also beats any Mexican food we've had in the US. We were four, had four different dishes, all good, including quesadillas and tortillas, the best we ever had.

Service was also very pleasant and swift. This is the place we will return to before leaving.

Very traditional place in the history of the city, delicious food and drinks. This restaurant is a little expensive but totally worth it. You will get a very tasty main course and a drink for 150 pesos.

Try the speciality, enchiladas Tacuba and agua de horchata. If you are not so hungry ask for the tamal especial and a cup of hot coco for 55 pesos.

This is a colonial place, very colorful and traditional. Do not hessitate if you are in town and go for it.

Its just outside metro station Allende on the blue line, same line as Zócalo and Bellas Artes in the heart of the city.

On this place you can find Excelent food (excelent "mole"), but other than that the atmosphere (Walls, pictures, furniture) has a traditional Mexican touch. I've been there with my family and expend a very good time.

I have visited this restaurant various times, usually before a performance in the Palacio de Bellas Artes. The last visit was made special by our waitress, Alin, who was extremely upbeat and friendly,. My friend and I both had the Tamal estilo Oaxaca, a hugh tamal with a generous portion of chicken and mole in a very tender and flavorful masa, accompanied by a side of frijoles. They also provide the added pleasure of a roving band of musicians playing old favorites or taking requests from the customers. I was about the only "gringo" in the restaurant which is popular with the locals. In my opinion a "must-go" place to eat.

Near the Zocalo, this place has a real charme from other times, despite the fact that at the beginning of XX century it was a psychiatric clinic.
With a nice and unique Mexican decoration, you will have a very helpful and educated service to have lunch or just tea time.
It has different spaces, and at week ends the first floor remains open at public; I think the best with its Virgins place,
Very good service, tastefully cakes, and live Mariachis music (just a little, do not worry); a good option to enjoy an afternoon at DF Historic Downtown.
