We had a nice supper meal at Casa Valadez. My wife had a very tasty French Onion Soup, followed by Fetuccine with Shrimp. The last was fine, but nothing special.
I had 4 Tacos de Arrachera, which were generously filled with diced, tender meat, accmpanied by a traditional salsa of tomatillos and dried chiles; plus mayo based on that delivered quite a kick.
Plating and presentation is very attractive. (When I saw some huge hamburgers go by, I wanted one, but had already ordered.)
I indulged myself for dessert with some of the best flan ever. It was tender and creamy and rich tasting, in a cajeta sauce with a fresh strawberry on top. There were also two luscious blackberries on the artistically decorated plate.
The decor looks elegant, a sort of Victorian style, with chadleier and fancy wallpaper, but in reality, it's a casual, mid-priced restaurant.
The waiters are quick and attentive, but my wife observed something disturbing: one waiter was wiping tableware with a napkin and he not only wiped a knife that had fallen to the floor, he also wiped "clean" a used knife from from a plate of a customer who'd finished. The waiter and some of his co-workers, would walk around with tableware in their shirts or vest pockets.
It was like the old joke...but in reality, not funny. It's a truly disgusting practice, and we are hoping that it was just one, aberrant waiter, as we otherwise liked the restaurant and hope to return.
PS: Don't miss the restrooms. They are beautiful.
