My family (myself, wife, and two young children) stayed in this hotel for five nights this past August. The room was nice and spacious, quiet, private, and with a nice view. Our kids loved the pool, which also had a little kiddie pool area for non-swimmers. As mentioned in other reviews it is a bit of a walk to the City center (maybe 20 minutes) but really kind of fun with lots of activity, street life etc. You don't have to walk through a tunnel to get to the center, but can veer right as you pass the frog statues and through an opening in the commenorative wall and then through a park, where on weekends they put out a trampoline for kids. Our main issue was that pushing a stroller on the narrow, crowded, and steep sidewalks was a bit challenging. There was also a nice park across the road from the hotel that was filled with lots of people jogging, kicking around a soccer ball, or just relaxing. After eating in the center we walked home after dark a couple times, but I don't think this is such a good idea. It didn't seem unsafe necessarily but it's pretty dark and crossing the busy road to get to the hotel was scary. But getting a taxi from downtown was cheap and easy. The hotel restaraunt isn't great, but fine if you are feeling like staying in. We thought it was nice to have the center as a destination to go to and nice to get away from the center when we wanted to just relax.

Being a bit further out of town there is room for the hotel to have parking and a pool, however the walk is a good 20 minutes into the centre of town. The walk was pleasant enough, and quite manageable for anyone with some minimal fitness. We all managed the hills, even the two kids (9 and 11). It also felt safe, even later at night.

The pool was great for the kids (mine don’t mind freezing water in winter). However in the rooms, the walls were paper thin, so you could hear all the comings and goings of anyone in the next room, and we had very noisy neighbours. Didn’t find the staff very friendly, but they did the job.

Based on reviews from this site, we booked 2 nights at this property, and enjoyed our stay (July 18-20, 2007). We thought we would need air-conditioning, but found the weather to be pleasant during the day, and a little cool in the evenings. This hotel is basic in some ways, but very nice in others. There is a lively family atmosphere which we enjoyed, and also enjoyed having a pool in Guanajuato--we had stayed in a hotel right on the Jardin on our last visit. This is one of those hotels with a matttress on a board, so be prepared. We had a master suite--huge living room, huge bedroom, and large dressing room/closet/bath--as an upgrade for the $139/night price quoted for a junior suite. Alas, the lighting was so poor, we never did use the living room, and were tempted to move into the bath area when reading! The pool area is very nice, with plenty of seating and covered areas for dining, etc. Highly recommend comida and lounging after a hectic morning in the main town! Friendly service, with lots of English speakers. Good water pressure in the shower and plenty of hot water.

The hotel is located about a 10-minute walk from the main historic part of the city. Because of this it is much quieter than hotels in the center. It is next to a pleasant park with lots of interesting activity going on, and the walk is also pleasant. The rooms are large
and attractive, but very dark, with no comfortable chairs. My
"single" room had two queen and one twin beds, which left little space for anything else. The bathroom and shower are large with plenty of hot water. The restaurant is satisfactory, but not spectacular. There are several public sitting rooms on the ground floor, and there is an elevator. I recommend it because of its location.

We accompanied friends staying here for an international conference so all was preorganised for us.
The reception staff seemed to be under constant stress because it was very busy and they looked mad but did their job well enough. Our room was of a good size and the beds rock hard which is exactly how I want them but others did complain. Our room had no safe and worse, no bar. It faced the busy street & although a fair distance away from it, the traffic was very noisy every week day from around 5 AM which made it impossible to sleep. I'm not sure if this was the same in the other rooms so I would ask for a room not facing this side if I stay there again.
The only other complaints were with the small bathroom which had the shower & lavatory together which was fine, but the adjoining vanity area had no door (common in Mexico, it seems) so there's a lack of privacy there. The shower's drainage was slow so the base would flood if the water force was on high. The shower head was fixed to the wall (i.e., non-adjustable) so that could be a bit awkward for the too tall or too short. Also, the hot water was always a miserable lukewarm in the evenings.
The room was spotless when we arrived and was the same each day after being cleaned - the chambermaids were excellent, even when it was so busy.
Regarding the hotel's location, it's not that far from the centre. If a person hates walking or can't, then it would be a problem. It's around 15 minutes to the main centre on foot, walking a straight line & it's a very pleasant walk. There's an interesting plaza along the way filled with many frog sculptures commemorating Guanajuato's World Heritage Site status and after that, there's a tree-filled park which gives lovely views of the coloured houses on the hilltops - we might have missed these if we had stayed in the main centre. Directly after this is the tunnel to the centre. Also, the bus service to the centre from the hotel is excellent and they pass frequently and the return is the same (can be caught from the cathedral) , except that there's no bus service from 10 PM so we took taxis back (for around 25 pesos).

We chose this hotel because it has a pool (we have got small kids) and parking. Sure enough, the parking was fine and the outdoor pool looked ok (in the end, we never used it as it was too cold). However, there was not much else that I liked about this place.

The hallways and rooms were very poorly lit so the place felt a bit creepy and it was hard to read or play board games & puzzles with the children in our rooms after dark.

The location on a busy road outside of town was uninspiring. It was too far to walk over the steep hill into town with our kids so we ended up taking taxis and could not enjoy strolling the beautiful little alleys of Guanajuato in the evening.

The service seemed OK while we were at the hotel, but after we left I discovered that some aspects of their service are TERRIBLE. We found a very large meal charge on our Visa statement from the hotel a month after our trip. Since we had never eaten in the hotel restaurant we were surprised and called about the charge. The hotel promised to reverse the charge as soon as possible, but they did not. The problem was never resolved even after several more calls, e-mails and a personal visit to the hotel. Each time, we received assurances that the charges would be reversed but nothing ever came of it. I would not visit this hotel again.

After giving some consideration to most hotels in Guanajuato, we decided to go for this one...we were so surprised!

The hotel is gorgeous! It looks just like an authentic colonial mansion, but still keeps a modern feel in services and attention. The price was very low too (we recommend booking with them directly, they'll give you a good deal...we got a huge suite for around $100USD).

We only had breakfast and coffee and desserts in their restaurant, but that was excellent too, and just as cheap (if not cheaper) than any cafe in the city. The service was extremely attentive, top notch we must say.

The only disadvantage is that it is a few minutes away from the main attractions. And although walking there the first time was charming, we took cabs everywhere else after, but this was fine, as they don't charge more than $3USD even if you go really far away.

We really recommend this hotel - it may be slightly out of the way, but it is nice to goback to peace and quiet after a busy day, and all services and amenities are fantastic.
