We stopped in for a quick lunch but were talked into a delicious feast. We had the manager's suggestion of prawns, arracheta and chicken, plus a vegetarian option for tacos. The smell of the restaurant was amazing, and the food was delicious. I also highly recommend the watermelon juice. We were well looked after for service and the manager was also very friendly, chatting with us about Guanajuato.

After checking into the Meson de los Poetas hotel, we began to stroll through the neighborhood and immediately were drawn to the aroma of meat being grilled in the triangular plaza in front of the hotel. Stationed over the grill was the owner of Fonda del Artista, Eric, who seemed welcoming and professional. That evening, looking for a place to eat, we decided to give the Fonda a chance. It was Sunday so we were treated to a special menu with portions of chorizo, beef, and chicken succulent and perfectly charred along with tortillas, guacamole, and a mixture of grilled mushrooms and zucchini. Everything was amazing! So tasty. We had a great time chatting with Eric's wife who was full of information on the city and who owned a gallery nearby. Both Eric and his wife speak English tons better than our Spanish and it was a joy to spend time with them. When we return to Guanajuato, a magical city with oodles of charm, we definitely will make Fonda del Artista our first culinary stop.

Eric is an accomplished chef. He strives to use the best ingredients, some organic, in cooking traditional Mexican cuisine. For dinner we had a hearty vegetable pozole and delicious arrechera - tender and tasty. Casual dining among original art, for breakfast-lunch-dinner. My husband and I had a most enjoyable and educational Cooking Class with Eric - from visiting the mercados for our ingredients to hands-on food preparation - and then, best of all, eating the delicious feast! He is a good teacher and we learned new cocina tricks. Gracias!

I took a cooking class with the owner Eric Miranda and had the best time ever. From going to the market to buy the ingredients all the way to eating the finished Gorditas, Eric was a patient and supportive teacher who not only taught me the basics of Mexican cooking, but the history of the ingredients and how they complement each other. When we finished, we sat together eating our wonderful creation with smiles and good cheers. Take a class with Eric, and you will discover the real Mexico and make a great new friend. ANd lets not forget that the food in his restaurant rocks as well!!

My daughter and I strolled into this restaurant for dinner on a day which had been hectic and warm. We were enchanted by the artwork on the walls and the colourful table settings.
We ordered Pozole and, with the chef's advice, Pescado Empapelado...bass cooked in foil with garlic, onion, and tomatoes and served with rice.
Both meals were delicious.
The owner was friendly and helpful!
Great meal!
