“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

This is the second time I've stayed this hotel and I have no complaints, except that the shower pressure was low. Though, this really isn't a problem for me. Generally speaking, the city of Guanajuato is noisy and festive and it's not easy to find a hotel here that keeps the noise out. Both times I was given a quiet room at this particular hotel. I stayed in room #306, off the street and located somewhere in the back of this almost labyrinth-like hotel. I can see where the stairs could be a problem with some people, but I'm in my mid-40s and in pretty good shape. The stairs were not a problem at all for me. The buffet breakfast was delicious, filling, and came with my rate. I called the hotel directly to make my reservation and the rate I was given was about $20 cheaper than that of the internet. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room off the street.

Although we didn't stay anywhere else, I can't believe this is the second-best place in the whole city. Positives: Yes, the building is very charming as everyone says, lots of character. Location is good, easy walk to the centro, while removed enough to be quieter than the places right on the square. Also, they have a relationship with a parking lot about 10 min walk away (through a tunnel). Parking could be a problem in GTO if you drive.

Rooms themselves were average. Service was weird-for example in this entire place it seems there was not an ice cube to be had. But the real issue is value. We paid the rack rate of about US $125 although there was nothing special going on and it didn't seem full. The included breakfast would run 35-50 pesos outside, and I just don't see how they can charge that much for what is offered. If it were half the price I would give it the 5 stars others did.

We really enjoyed our stay at Los Poetas. The location is an easy walk to all the major Guanajuato attractions (theater, restaurants, shops and streetlife). The decor is charming with many special touches. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And we DID have WiFi in our room (they have different codes for different areas of the hotel).

Note: if you are driving be prepared for a 15 minutes ¨tunnel walk¨ to the parking area which carries an additional, but reasonable, fee.

Also, be prepared for some street noise at night -- it IS downtown and the streets are charmingly filled with students and families at night (at least on weekends).

We stayed for 4 nights and loved it -- but you gotta like stairs. The building is fascinating with steps, corridors, and small sitting areas. Had to go out of the room to get WiFi, but no problem as there are pleasant seating areas. The restaurant was only open for breakfast -- featuring a buffet. It was OK, but subsequently we went out as breakfast was not included in the price. The desk staff was very helpful. Suggested a tour (of the Bajio) that we liked very much (only understood about 1/2 of it as it was in Spanish). The location is very good -- near one of the main university buildings, the Plaza de La Paz and the Jardin de Union where things seemed to be happening every night. In the other direction, the Mercado Municipal was withing range. Plenty of restaurants withing walking distance (this is a walking city).

Room Tip: I didn't see a lift, so if stairs are a problem, may need to act accordingly.

Each room is named after a poet, hence the name of the hotel. This is indicative of the unique style of the hotel. The interior is beautiful, brightly coloured with lovely tiles and details and a great view from the rooftop. It is in a great location, it's central but not noisy. It has many levels so we requested a room on one of the lower floors so as not to climb hundreds of stairs. The staff were happy to accommodate this request. There are loads of passageways and staircases so some of the rooms have a lot of steps but the website tells you how many stairs you need to climb for each room! The only problem was that our room was at times a little noisy with the sound of guests and staff in the passageway.

From the outside it doesn't look like a big flashy hotel, but at the moment you get in its awesomeness overwhelms you in so many ways; as I like to call it: "The wow effect"

First of all, the rooms! all of the are different and really good decorated according to the author/writer of the room. Going through all the rooms you can find great spots from a nice stairway to a cool patio where they serve the included breakfast, which by the way is delicious and totally worth it! it includes something for every tastes from the healthy cereal to traditional "chilaquiles".

On the other hand, all the staff is pretty nice and helpful. they even suggest a lot of cool thing to go see or where to it or even special tours throughout the city.

Besides the awesome decoration and service, I would say that the best feature is the location!!! You have everything on walking distance but "far" enough from all the noise that some people might not like when sleeping.

Basically you can forget about using you car within the city, but you can leave it safe in the parking lot that the hotel offers as an extra service.

-Amazing interior and courtyard. As you drive by the front entrance does not do it justice. It is not until you go inside, see the courtyard and various passage ways that you can truly appreciate the hotel. Almost a microcosm of Guanajuato and how it's laid out.
-Great price, location, accommodations and hotel staff!
-Parking is not on hotel grounds, but is o.k. since you won't need a car in the town and really don't want to drive around in it.

Room Tip: -no elevators so if you aren't in to walking or would have much luggage pick one on lower floor...
